Why is my Og so low yo?

Problem solved. An extra 500grams of sugar was added to the fermenter. I make that 2lb of DME, 6.6lb of LME and 1lb of sugar. I think that should make it an og of 1.074. Is that about right?

Why is my Og so low yo?

It was very well mixed and aired before taking a sample so I don't think it could be that. Any other ideas?

Why is my Og so low yo?

Just brewed an extract beer. 6.6lb of light LME, 2lb of Amber DME, assorted hops etc. My calculations say I should have an OG of 1.056ish, but I'm ending up with 1.035. What's up with that? It was a 3gallon boil, topped off to 5 gallons. I measure the temp at 20 centigrade which is what my...

Can i dry hop my extract beer after its been fermenting for two weeks?

I used 3lb of Amber LME and 2lb of light DME for a 5 gallon bath, cascade hops for everything and danstar American ale yeast. I know I can't judge yet, but my sample was a bit gutless. I want to add a load more cascade hops to get the aroma up and hopefully a bit more flavour.

Can i dry hop my extract beer after its been fermenting for two weeks?

Hello. Just tried a sample of my extract brew from the hydrometer pot and not convinced at its hoppiness. It's stopped fermenting but I want it to taste hoppier. Can I put a load of cascade hops in with it for a week or two to encourage the taste or will it ruin my beer? Cheers.

    No feremntation after 14 hrs

Couldn't resist checking the o ring and wouldn't your know it, the damn thing was off kilter. Readjusted and now it's bubbling away happily. Lesson learnt- don't rely on bubbles for signs of fermentation and ultimately RDWHAHB. Thanks for everyone's help, I owe you all a pint of Amarillo IPA.

    No feremntation after 14 hrs

What about a hydrometer reading? Is it too early at 48hrs?

    No feremntation after 14 hrs

Okay then, I will continue to wait and watch. When should I take a hydrometer reading? How soon is too soon? I'm eager to see how it's doing. Also, does that look like a healthy krausen to anybody? It resembles the last few brews I've done and they've been great.

    No feremntation after 14 hrs

So I came home from work today (44 hrs in) and there's a very healthy looking krausen in my fv, but no bubbles in the airlock. I take it this means my seal isn't very good. Should I tamper with it or just leave it and trust the co2 will keep the baddies out? And my wife is well pissed cus I sent...

    No feremntation after 14 hrs

Thanks for everyone's input. I'm going to wait three days to see why happens. I'll let you know.

    No feremntation after 14 hrs

One last thing, the wort will be alright then whilst I wait? It won't suffer in anyway?

    No feremntation after 14 hrs

I was happy it was alive and well when I pitched it, and the temp difference between the yeast and wort was a couple of degrees, so I'll just wait then. I'll send the wife to the shop tomo to get some more just in case, but you put my mind at ease for now. Many thanks.

    Have I ruined it?

For anyone who might stumble upon this thread, the lager still tastes pretty rough, better than it did, but not great. I put it down to crappy yeast, adding pure sugar and not letting it ferment enough, basically following the instructions on the tin. Buy your own yeast, add malt extract bit...

    No feremntation after 14 hrs

So don't pitch more yeast? I thought that saffale 05 was meant to be pretty quick? I will defer to more experienced folk than my self.

    No feremntation after 14 hrs

Seriously? I shouldn't pitch new yeast?

    No feremntation after 14 hrs

I just brewed up an Ipa last night and rehydratede my us05 yeast. I waited till temps were at 20 and pitched the yeast which was alive and kicking. Still not seeing any signs of fermentation. What should I do?

    Have I ruined it?

Cheers for that. I tried another today and it wasn't as bad. I'll Definately wait a few months now.

    Have I ruined it?

Hi all, I bottled my first batch of lager two weeks ago. I couldn't wait the twelve weeks recommended on the kit, and as it is already clear I decided to try one. It tasted a bit acidic and not very nice. Does this mean its spoilt or should I wait longer and try again? Cheers.
