Berliner Weisse Sour Cherry Berliner Weisse

You mention using 2 bottles of cherry juice, we're they 16, 32, 48 or 64oz bottles? I want to make a cherry lime milkshake ipa and am scouring the internet to figure out how to pack the most cherry flavor into it. Thanks!

    Another APA Recipe

You are correct, the carapils was swapped out for the carafoam. I'm using the combination of victory, caramel 10 and flaked barley, to help make up for the caramalt.

    Another APA Recipe

One of my local breweries was nice enough to tell me what they use in one of my all time favorite APAs. They use 2-row, wheat, caramalt and carafoam and finish it all off with cascade, centennial and citra hops. I want to try to re-create this but my local shop doesn't carry caramalt or...

'Tis the Saison for Blending (Seasonality & my Sour Program)

Wow, I was completely off. I am a little embarrassed by how far off I was. Thank you for being kind in your education and not...well ya know. Haha. I guess I will just have to tell everyone it is merely a blended aged sour. Do you try to build a starter with sour dregs or just dump them in?

'Tis the Saison for Blending (Seasonality & my Sour Program)

I thought a gueuze was a blend of a 1 year old, 2 year old and 3 year old sour beer. Maybe it's more complex than that. Thats my plan for the gallon or so I will not be bottling. Thank you for the yeast information. I know the fiance will be itching to try the sours once cold and carbonated, so...

'Tis the Saison for Blending (Seasonality & my Sour Program)

This might be just the thread I was looking for. Brewed up a light ale in February of 21. Primary fermentation was with us05 then pitched a lacto blend, a brett blend and a pediococcus strain. My plan is to bottle 2/3rds of it and transfer the other 3rd to save and make a gueuze with. After a...

    Second Year Centennial Pruning Question

Here is my second year centennial. TONS of bull shoots. The Wisconsin spring has been super cold, I'm hoping next weeks slightly warmer air (mid 50's) will really get these up and growing just so I can cut them all down. I planted my rhizome in one of those huge 30 gallon half-'whiskey' barrels...

Larry Bell Stepping Down, Selling to New Belgium's parent company

Oberon and Two Hearted were all I drank in the UP before a bunch of smaller local breweries opened up when I was attending school up there. I didn't know bells owned upper hand brewery (makes one of my favorite dark lagers)

Larry Bell Stepping Down, Selling to New Belgium's parent company

There are two breweries that I stopped buying beer from once abinbev took over. Breckenridge Brewery - their beers went way way downhill. Im not sure what happened there. My family used to buy two or 3 24 packs of the Christmas ale throughout December. After they got bought not a single one of...

Larry Bell Stepping Down, Selling to New Belgium's parent company

When I saw this I was really hoping it was a joke. I, like many others have mentioned, love most of Bells beers, I never was able to get my hands on a black note despite trying harder than I ever have to get one. As happy as I am for Larry...I mean everyone needs to retire eventually right? I...

Wilser BIAB vs The Brew Bag?

Squeezing got my kettle efficiency up to like 88% on the last brew. Ended up hitting 1.094 when all I wanted was 1.077. Hahaha. I probably won't be squeezing that hard next time

Wilser BIAB vs The Brew Bag?

My previous bag was not a wilser bag. Should have started with that. I'd take a guess that I'm close to 20 or 25 in it. It is a heavier duty bag I grabbed from my LHBS a few years back. It was a super entry level bag that the guys said would need to be replaced at some point if I stuck with...

Wilser BIAB vs The Brew Bag?

Awesome! Can't wait to start measuring!

Wilser BIAB vs The Brew Bag?

My first BIAB bag is getting pretty whole-y. I definitely want to order a custom wilser bag. For those who have, how accurate do we need to be with measurements? For example, I know my pots bottom diameter is a bit smaller than top diameter. Should I try to give both? Do I need to measure how...

Winter Seasonal Beer Holly (Christmas Ale)

How long do you let it sit in primary? I brewed this up this past Wednesday and got just shy of 3 gallons that came out to 1.094 and should be a tad over 10% when it finishes. Apparently I finally managed to improve my efficiency. Glad I grabbed 2 packs of US-05.

Questions on Roasting Pecans for homebrew use.

I know this is a super old thread, but wondering how this turned out. Thinking about trying to brew something that might use pecans in the mash and pecans in secondary as well.

    Squeeze the bag

Sweet! My local big box store has one as well that I might just go grab. It's an 18" which should work for my bigger pot (I want to etch this one eventually) as well as being handy for other DIY projects.

    Squeeze the bag

Did your SS ruler come with the cork on the back? I ordered one thinking it would be pure unadulterated SS, to my shame it has the cork. Will that, or the glue that attaches the cork to the SS impart off flavors into beer?

    OG issues driving me crazy

Thank you so much for that insight! Thinking back it definitely is confusing. I brewed a previous batch of the infamous cream of three crops ale, brewers friend listed the og as like 6 points higher, but I had hit exactly what that recipe predicted for OG and that was when my confusion really...

    OG issues driving me crazy

@jdudek I do not have an official pre-boil volume, just one that I can estimate. I began the BIAB with 3.50 gallons, poured over with another 0.25 gallons for a total water amount of 3.75. I tried to squeeze the bag to extract as much water as possible. Based on other's who have done the...
