    1-Gallon Brewers UNITE!

Lol, unfortunately I only have the equipment for one batch at a time...probably will do the amarillo this weekend and porter next weekend. I guess....haha

So I need to decide which batch to brew next, an amarillo blonde or the coconut porter. Technically the porter will take longer, thus I should start it sooner...but the amarillo sounds do tasty! What would you do? (note: only enough time to brew one batch this weekend)

Had that happen with an apple crisp ale, I think it was an awkward recipe that became highly infected...nasty.

Good thought. I sorta want to try a chai tea ale, so half gallon is probably a good way to go for that one

I was thinking that, I read a few places that said it was a bad idea to condition in the growler? I guess they are more likely to explode.

Anyone have a clever use for a growler? (half gallon, regarding small batch brewing) I brought one home from Christmas, but don't really have a good idea for what I will actually use it for. (no, I prolly won't brew a half gallon batch, that's way too small)

Because it just is! I use Regular zip locks for my "kits" - works great!

    1-Gallon Brewers UNITE!

Yep, now I brew to have fun brewing....not to brew award winning beer. My goal is to consistently brew beer good enough to buy less beer. (although I love me some sierra Nevada) If I was going to consistently win awards, my routine and concerns would be greatly different.

    1-Gallon Brewers UNITE!

Yep! The actual number is 3.99.......something. But I see no point in going that far because there are so many other factors to be concerned about than whether or not your og is accurate to the ten thousandth. Don't forget that the refractometer still won't work for final gravity! That math is...

Just multiply by 4. I guess I just try to be closer and consistent...that's usually fairly easy math and still easier than filling/cooling a hydro sample. (for me)

Well, I made a significant error in schedule a Christmas beer gift. I started a brown ale for my dad on Dec 2nd, and it's still fermenting! In planning on bottling it on Friday and just telling him to wait a few weeks... But the lesson here is that beer takes time, so plan ahead! Way ahead!

    Best way to calculate recipes

I use this Android app called "BrewR" just to get an idea on what my recipe is going to look like. Beyond that, I just try to focus and simplify my process.

Mine was an "Amazon fulfilled" seller, so I got free 2 day prime shipping. I prefer it that way, cheap and fast, plus easier to return.

I mill my own with a corona mill from Amazon. They only cost around $20.

    1-Gallon Brewers UNITE!

I have a food grade 5 gallon bucket from Lowes ($5-6) with a lid that I store all my grain in. My yeast is in the fridge, and hops are in the chest freezer (double bagged in freezer bags). I usually have a 10lb bag of base malt and then one pound bags of special malts. I would buy bulk, but I...

Yeah, I think they have good intentions...and they got me into actually making all grain beer. Even the starter kit isn't totally outrageous. maybe I'll start selling kits....lol.

    1-Gallon Brewers UNITE!

Not terrible...I feel like that should be the normal price though, I'm pretty sure my batches are around $5-7.

Did you do that $5 deal? I totally missed it....otherwise the kits they sell are quite pricey IMO. any pics of your setup?

What's your occupation: Engineer or Non-Engineer

I don't think that's entirely correct either. The term you are describing would be a "Professional Engineer" or PE. I have two degrees, a job title and job description that define myself as an engineer....the term engineer is extremely ambiguous. So, I am a Product Design Engineer and I love...

    strange floaters

Lol ok. It's been about a week and a half. I'll give it a few more. Usually I use a carboy, but my mr beer fermentor was empty, and I question the airlock method they use.(two tiny slots) Thanks!
