Thanks for the tips everyone. Using my standard mlt (2 gallon cooler) I get about 70% efficiency. I'm interested in biab because i can do (slightly) larger batches with equipment i already have. ($ saved = happy wife). Thanks all!

I've been brewing 1 gallon batches for a while now, but I want to do one big (3 gallon) batch to catch up on my pipeline. So I want to biab. How much different is this than regular all grain? Any recommended site to convert my recipes? Thanks for the help!

If you are starting from scratch, it wouldn't hurt to grab some two gallon buckets. I personally just use the 1 gallon glass carboys.

I cold crash in my attached, unheated garage. Hangs out around 40° this time of year.

It would work, but its tough to clean them, plus they will trend to get weaker over time. In a pinch, I'm sure it is fine.

Should be fine! I've left mine for well over a month before. Bottle it when you can, but it will be fine.

I need to order some stainless steel washers for my mlt, but McMaster-Carr sells them in packs of 25, @ $10 plus shipping. Does anyone want to split an order? I really don't need 25. I'll be buying 316 ss, 1/2 id, 1-1/4 od. If interested, pm me!

Depends on the batch, but 2-3 weeks fermenting (sometimes I secondary, but not always) 2-? In the bottle. It seems to get a little worse with time, but levels off somewhere in the "still drinkable"stage.

My sanitation is super good, pretty much brew/bottle under a later of starsan. The flavor I'm coming up with is mostly prevalent as an aroma. Tap water is good to drink, they only as chlorine, fluoride and something to get rid of red something? I figure of this batch turns out better, than...

Thanks for the info! Ended up buying spring water, ro water doesn't have enough minerals for beer without adding stuff.

Woohoo! Finally brewing today! Amarillo Pale Ale, I'm pretty excited about using amarillo. I'm also planning on using RO water because all of my beers seem to pick up this...plastic...taste. It could be phenolic, but 7 bad batches seems unreasonable. Had anyone else had this problem with city...

I feel your pain, especially with giving everything away for the holidays. But considering what I paid to build my baby mlt, it will be a while before I do more than 1 gallon batches.

For sure! The amarillo is basically a blonde, but I haven't decided on ibu level yet. The porter should be cool, lots of C60 to get color and body, with some chocolate malt - because coconut and chocolate were made to be together. Not sure about hops though, probably fuggles or Kent goldings...hmmm
