☕ Coffee ☕: Ingredients, Roasting, Grinding, Brewing, and Tasting

I wouldn't mess with the ASS-22. I just replaced mine & the unit it is very specific to running the motor. If you're very comfortable with all the stuff then maybe no problem but I tried using an AS-22 speed controller & the drum wouldn't run. The extra S in the model name makes a big...

@TallDan - are you replacing the PID T/C? I like the stock 5mm as an appx. Of Drum temp. Have fun getting that shell back on. It’s a royal PITA. I had to use large wood clamps to assist holding it in. While the hoods off though be sure & lube the rear pillow. Some 30w works just fine.

I’m going to roast tonight.. I’m going to roast tonight.. I’m going to roast tonight . I’m GOING to roast tonight A trick for fine adjustments on stepped grinders to slightly increase or decrease dose. Keep that in your bag of tricks when dialing in your shots. Look’n good so far!

@Ruint - exciting to hear you have an espresso machine coming. Is this the BDB that can be modded to use the water wand to control pressure profile? Are you going to do any of these mods? My understanding is that Breville built these machines to absolutely slay Scace temperature tests & due...

by all accounts the BDB is a savage beast that does everything all the “dream” machines boast about (with mods).. and then some. paired with a Baratza Sette you’d have no one to blame but yourself or the beans for unsatisfying shots

i pulled my Vario apart last year to use the tin foil shim method for alignment. after a few hundred pounds of coffee i was curious to see how sharp they were and they felt as if they were new. i would recommend using the tin foil shim method for alignment since you'll have the grinder...

☕ Coffee ☕: Ingredients, Roasting, Grinding, Brewing, and Tasting

I got one when i got my first espresso machine. Tamping pressure was a hot topic back then. I sold it after a while because i just got the hang of it. It did serve a purpose though as a training tool. Research has shown that tamping pressure really has little to no effect on extraction so i...

Compak K10's are a relic of the past with the current trend towards single dosers and resultantly, they often sell for around $800. Not only are they built like tanks (and nearly big as one) but the grind quality is superb. I've owned 2 and with just a little bit of extra work, you can single...

^that sir, is AWESOME :) I had a cup this morning myself & found it quite enjoyable. It needs another day or 2 of rest and due to a super quick development, it's leaning more towards strawberry than blueberry at the moment. @TallDan When i first heard about the Max I was dead set on getting it...

I’ve been using this trick to deal with taped ziplock bags of green coffee and wanted to share. As you probably know, that tape can be a real PITA to fight with & often results in pulling the bag loose at the seal seal. Using scissors you can cut about 1/4” off the end very quickly & bypass the...

I was apply to use a higher charge temp & heat throughout w/o any tipping or scorching of the beans (high convection though). Some Natural Ethiopians can be on the drier side & cant take higher temps as well. This one appears to be more suited to roast like a Central American. In short, don’t...

In short, no. Google Ethiopian Coffee Exchange, AKA the ECX... AKA the worst thing to ever happen to Ethiopian Coffee. Roasted 1lb of the Hangadhi last night. 9min overall & +10* from 1C onset (which hit about 3* late). Aroma from the trier was good. The prep/sort on this Natural is above...

@applescrap - your commitment to quality is >>> than any equipment upgrade. You also have a firm grasp on the principle of “garbage in = garbage out”. Starting with a carefully curated green stock is something equipment or skill can’t make up for. The HG/BM is a very capable kit:rock:

^man i can't wait to hear what you think of that PNG you ordered! Thats the one unique/weird/unusual origin i really enjoy. When a PNG is on, the thick, syrupy body combined with the syrupy molasses sweetness & a kiss of hickory smoke is just delightful. Talk about a savory cup...

That legendary Banko was from 17’ and let us all rejoice in what an incredible coffee that was! Easily top 3 all time for me. In hindsight, I should have vac sealed & froze a whole 22lb box of it. And yes, that 20% off is a crazy good deal. I ordered 10lbs but I was close to just grabbing...
