☕ Coffee ☕: Ingredients, Roasting, Grinding, Brewing, and Tasting

Re: Banko 19' roast n' learn cracked the whip on another batch last night which is perhaps my 5th attempt? this bean is quite reluctant to take on heat during the browning phase. as a general rule i like drying% to be > brown%. while this batch doesn't meet that benchmark, it IS a sub 8min...

☕ Coffee ☕: Ingredients, Roasting, Grinding, Brewing, and Tasting

Honestly the industry is so far behind on Single Dose grinders that its refreshing to see more options popping up. The absolute fever/craze for Monoliths is a solid indicator how dialed in the Home Barista is currently. Folks have recognized the value of instant grind adjustment feedback...

Damn ... that is straight up IP theft from KafaTek. That said, SSP makes a heck of a 64mm flat burr if theirs aren’t up to snuff

☕ Coffee ☕: Ingredients, Roasting, Grinding, Brewing, and Tasting

i installed a 48,000 grain water softener in the house a couple days ago. this morning is the first cup brewed with the softened water. seems like there may be a slight difference in the cup, perhaps a little smoother/sweeter. could be placebo who knows. looking forward to seeing how the...

That’s awesome, Apples! Great feeling to get feedback like that. Also a great reminder how much the cup can change as it cools. I’ve found this coffee to be fun, challenging & somewhat frustrating. Similar to how you feel after a great shot on the golf course, I’m anxiously looking forward...

I am hoping to roast that Banko again today as well. I’d like to get the roast done in under 8 minutes. I’m not satisfied with the amount of berries I’m getting so far and almost feel as if this coffee wasn’t quite as advertised. I have been getting some good milk chocolate notes like you as...

i roasted the Banko Gotiti last night as well but wasn't stoked on the roast. after thinking about how happy i was with the Ichamama profile i decided i would use that on the Banko in hopes of getting the same curve. this Banko is very stubborn at taking in the heat during the browning phase...

☕ Coffee ☕: Ingredients, Roasting, Grinding, Brewing, and Tasting

ive been working with this coffee for almost a week now and i haven't picked up any definitive berry notes ... until this morning (about 1 week post roast). ive been brewing it in the chemex-kone setup and this morning I ran it through the v60 and ground the coffee on my monolith flat. this...

☕ Coffee ☕: Ingredients, Roasting, Grinding, Brewing, and Tasting

My first roast had a bit too much momentum at the start & lagged heading towards 1C. Overall the times/temps look OK & I’m excited to try it tomorrow. Been drinking the Hangadhi this week & dang that stuff is good. Edit: Made an 8oz Aeropress & even with less than 24hrs rest you can tell...

☕ Coffee ☕: Ingredients, Roasting, Grinding, Brewing, and Tasting

Anyone else make espresso with a Papau New Guinea? Over the years I’ve seen several listed at Sweet Maria’s with the remarks “not good for espresso”. This always seemed counterintuitive based on the cupping charts & notes. Who wouldn’t want a heavy bodied, molasses/syrupy shot? I’ve tried...

☕ Coffee ☕: Ingredients, Roasting, Grinding, Brewing, and Tasting

I’ve done a lot of roasts with a 1 minute soak. It’s basically how I started with the TJ & spent a few years using that technique. It wasn’t until recently that I’ve converted to a higher airflow roast. This has allowed me to get to 1C in a quicker, more controlled manner. Edit: you can see...

I think its zero to fifty but and can verify for ya later. I wouldn’t worry about it much. I have 2mm probes and a thick azz drum. RoR often goes off scale after charge. I find the first 2 minutes to be nearly meaningless in this regard
