    conical fermentor questions

The chiller is a great option, use mine everytime I brew. I rigged my Brewhemoth up with an aquarium thermostat, has a 10 amp contact, more than enough even when I use two pumps.

    Penrose kettle for mash tun

A pizza pan......This summer I'll worry about making it look nicer, wanting to start recirculating the wort with a pump set-up.

    Penrose kettle for mash tun

I've used one on my last couple batches. Needed a bigger mash tun than my 10 gallon Rubbermaid as I'm experimenting with no-sparge and parti gyle brewing here of late. Installed a copper manifold on the bottom, wrapped with an old sleeping bag to hold temps. Only lost 3 degrees in my hour mash...

    Brewhemoth conicals?

    melomels- primary or secondary?

If you want a wine-like flavor, add the fruit to the primary, if you want more fresh fruit flavor, add to secondary. or a third method is to add to both. Check my blog ( Penrose Picobrewery ) for the Strawberry Mead I'm currently making. Gives step by steps with photos to my technique.

How accurate is a floating dairy thermometer for measuring strike/sparge temps?

After 212 degrees at sea level water is a vapor unless one adds pressure or dissolves something into it to raise the temp. Add more heat and your boil becomes more rolling, which is just the water turning to steam at a faster rate. Any temp increase you are seeing in pure water is the temp of...

How accurate is a floating dairy thermometer for measuring strike/sparge temps?

How did you get a boil temp of 214-216? Water boils at 212, without putting it under pressure or adding things to it, that is as high as it goes.

    Brewhemoth conicals?

Prototype number 2, which we also tried copper plating, is currently sitting with 11 gallons of IPA in it. I crashed it to 52, held there for a couple days, dumped the yeast, its now sitting at 63 with Centennial hops steeping away. This is uninsulated in a 70 degree room. The other Brewhemoth...

    Brewhemoth conicals?

I'm using a small chest freezer as my glycol chiller. About 10-15 gallons of a weak glycol solution, temp set at 25, and its good to go. With two immersion pumps in it, I can brew in two Brewhemoths at a time. With a healthy yeast pitch, and picking the right fermentation temp, I seem to be able...

    Brewhemoth conicals?

We made a spunding valve, works pretty good, tho after setting up my temp controlled fermentation set-up, I doubt I'll ever use it.

    Brewhemoth conicals?

Hey! We are all on the same page. Put together a Spudding Valve at Brewhemoth central, testing it this weekend. A 15 gallon batch of APA, our main worry is the pressure relief valve won't exhaust enough CO2 to maintain a constant pressure. Will find out by Sunday.

How often do you use your carboy or better bottle (poll)?

I have two Brewhemoths now, so I only use the carboys for 5 gallon batches, ciders, and meads.

    Brewhemoth conicals?

Lennie, your Brewhemoth was leak checked at 160 psi. You will have no worries.

So my neighbor has a massive pear tree...

I took first in at the 2010 1st UMMO Eis-Anything Competition with a perryjack. Statred with good tasting perry tho. All you are doing is concentrating alcohol and flavors, if you didn't like it before, you won't like it concentrated.

    Brewhemoth conicals?

The Brewhemoth is made out of parts from a discontinued line. The part we ran out of was the center cylinder. Having to buy that and the increase in cost of all the fittings, not to mention argon and tungsten, led to the price increase.

    Single tier stand stainless???

Stainless may discolor but it won't rust. Rust will destroy your stand.
