DIY stir plate issues: stir bar keeps getting thrown

I will try and recenter the magnets I have, as I already have them! I appreciate the help, I was curious just how much action or whirl I need to have the max air exchange. Also I tested it w water, and would one day like to be able to harvest 5L worth of yeast for high gravity beers!

DIY stir plate issues: stir bar keeps getting thrown

So I made a stir plate w a PC fan and a potentiometer. The bar gets thrown when I turn up the speed. I'm using small rare earth magnets 3/16. Should I get larger magnets? If so what size?

    Electric thermometer inside primary

I would like to keep better tabs on the temperature of my primary, could I snake a digital thermometer through the airlock? Then I could have an alarm go off when the desired temperature is reached, or strayed from.

    First original recipe: critique wanted

So after looking around, I found a brewculator and it has my ibu at 3.75, the style calls for 6 - 8. Could I boil some hops and add to the secondary? Additionally, I added .5 oz of the hops and left the in the beer, no hop bag. Does that affect the ibu's?

    First original recipe: critique wanted

Okay, thanks a ton for the input! I need to learn the brewers math for next time! This is the first time I've ever remembered to take a gravity reading, lol. I was so proud do myself, haha. It's only my 5th brew.

So what should I have done differently? More hops to offset all the malt? Do you foresee alot of unfermented sugars? Is there anything I can do to fix it in the secondary?

    First original recipe: critique wanted

If it is too sweet when I transfer to secondary, could I just dry hop it?

    First original recipe: critique wanted

The beer is already in the primary, it's got good action in the bubbler. It's a 5 gallon batch. I may have taken the gravity reading while the wort was above 70 degrees. Whic might have thrown it off

I'm going to try a pumpkin wheat. I have 5 lbs of dme and 3lbs of lme. Is this suffice, or overkill?

    Re-purposing chemical buckets

Well, after telling my wife that I may use these buckets...she too shivered and said she may allow a little more in my homebrew budget for some more buckets! I consider this a success! LOL! Thanks to all for the replies!

    Re-purposing chemical buckets

active ingredients were: sodium hydroxide and sodium hypocloride I'm not a chemist, is that bleach?

    Re-purposing chemical buckets

I have two buckets that once held industrial grade sanitizer for a dishwasher, they are both labeled 2 hdpe plastic. I'm only wondering if I should use them for beer or not. Is there a special way to clean them, perhaps with baking soda to neutralize the prior chemicals?

    Cooled wort too fast

Lol, the dog says thank you...and I appreciate the help!

    Cooled wort too fast

I used ice to cool my wort, and dropped it down to 50 degrees...then had to put my yeast in due to time constraints! Did I screw the pooch?
