    Clips for racking tube

I mean, the tubing was not a major problem for me, I guess I just like control. The toothpick seems like a good idea, especially if it works! When it comes to the actually cane it seems that many people suggest using a clothespin (could be plastic) with a rubber band ( to hold the cane to the...

    Clips for racking tube

My LHBS does not sell those fancy auto-siphon clips (those little guys the clip to the side of the bucket/carboy), and I was not about to pay approx $2 + $8 shipping for a piece of plastic. Call me cheap. Anyways, wandering around the store (Le Target) the other day I found these! 12 of...

Worst Dumb Mistake You've Made While Drunk?

These are dumb things we have done ? Okay, while in college (sound familiar???) I got in a fight with a garbage can in front of a Jimmy Johns in an attempt to impress a couple players from our basketball team ( so I am told). Later that night I decided to get into a rap battle with a homeless...

    Pre-boil DME

I am glad to hear that it can be done, repeatedly, without any adverse consequences. I will be attempting this in a little while. Thank you for the input and reassurance !

    Pre-boil DME

Is there anyone who has, or does, per-boil additions of DME to their "soon to be" wort? By per-boil I am referring to the time after steeping while the temp is working towards a boil. What are your experiences with this ?

    Porter No.2

After some research on mashing I think I have answered my own question. So it looks like this batch will be my first attempt at a partial mash. Haha.

    Porter No.2

Whoops!!!! Forgot hop times ! It will be: 60min 15min 2min Should I double the bittering? What if I am just using the flaked barley for body, and am not using for any source of fermentables ? Do I still need to mash? Thanks for the reply.

    Porter No.2

I am preparing to brew an experiment batch of 1 gal. really just to see how this would turn out. Well I also wanted to attempt a dark beer using Light DME as the base. 1.3 lbs Light DME ------------------------- 4.0oz Chocolate (250L) 3.2oz Biscuit (24.5L) 1.6oz Flaked Barley 1.0oz...

    The Dark(er) Side

Okay, that makes a lot sense, what both of you said. I appreciate the responses ! Now I get to play around with some recipes and compare... but most importantly, MAKE MORE BEER. Thanks again.

    The Dark(er) Side

While I was thumbing around on this wonderful forum I came across a statement that piqued my interest, or curiosity, whichever, as to what everyone prefers. (said statement is not vital at present time) Using dark DME/LME for darker beers, or using light DME/LME and using specialty grains...
