    Mash water amount question

I have been using calculators. This was my best efficiency to date. I'm going to crush even finer next time. I have a real bag coming too instead of using paint strainers. I have a feeling they are not letting the mash thin out enough. A lot of water lays below the bag because it only fits...

    Mash water amount question

Another question. I dump the kettle into the fermenter. So I'm not losing anything there. Is that a bad thing, should I be siphoning?

    Mash water amount question

Thank you. I am doing no sparge right now. I see a lot of people talking about 80 percent with no sparge. I suppose the extra gallon or so makes a big difference.

    Mash water amount question

Hey everyone. I read more and more that the more water that you mash with the better efficiency will be. Today I mashed with 2.1 qt to lb and ended up with 62 percent. 90 minute mash, lots of stirring. I'm crushing super fine. Gonna start checking ph, but if I bump the water up how do I not...

12.5 gallon kettle, max batch size?

Thanks. I'm not stuck on 10 gallon. I guess I'll just try maxing out the kettle and see what happens.

12.5 gallon kettle, max batch size?

I have a 5 gallon cooler, I was thinking of trying that as well. Complicates the BIAB process, but that's on me. :)

12.5 gallon kettle, max batch size?

I was actually talking about topping off before boiling, but I don't see why post boil top off wouldn't work. That's what's done with extract brewing with good results.

12.5 gallon kettle, max batch size?

Thank you for the reply. I am going to try to determine my boil off rate ahead of time because I read that I should "season" my new aluminum kettle. I am stepping up from extract brewing, so I don't know much about determining how much water I will need. I am reading and comparing recipes...

12.5 gallon kettle, max batch size?

Hey all, I picked up a 12.5 gallon steamer / burner combo to move into BIAB. My question is what is the largest recommended batch size you would try with this kettle? According to this calculator, a 10 gallon batch would have a pre boil wort volume of 12.15 gallons. Is that pushing it...
