    Glass carboys versus better bottles

Haha I agree the airlock is almost out of place

    Glass carboys versus better bottles

Now... what a discussion... I am now thinking wholeheartedly on buying a better bottle.. glass carboys are just so expensive and I see no drawbacks to the better bottle.... especially on its durability and the ease in carrying it around, and it seems people with glass carboys have had some...

    Legal implications of homebrew tasting

I find that this type of situation entirely depends on the flexibility of the owner of the place youre holding this event at. There are obvious legal implications but like was previously stated, youre not holding a 25,000 person event... I wouldnt foresee a problem. although you never know

Completed my first all-grain brew this weekend with success.....I think

Nice work! I agree on the airlock... first time tends to be focused on if fermentation is happening and when you should bottle.. I know I spent hours pining over the fact that I couldn't see active fermentation through my blow-off tube... turns out the yeast were well on their way to fermenting...

First all-grain mishaps and possibly successes?

I would say that its quite possible that missing the mash temp was a culprit in your efficiency... although for a first AG 65% isn't that bad! As for the calculations... I couldn't tell you.. brewhouse efficiency is one of the things of AG brewing I have yet undertaken to fully understand. Good...

    Oxygen tanks

Hey everyone... I just went to home depot and bought one of those compressed oxygen tanks the same style as like a small propane tank or MAP gas tank.. my question is where can i find a regulator to allow me to use that tank to inject oxygen into my wort?

    McGee Adventures in all grain

Yeah well luck has not shined on me today.. I have yet to begin as I am fixing some snags... first my copper tubing for my manifold has a bunch of very light green spots on it and I read somewhere on this site not to use copper tubing with green spots on it... sooo I'm thinking I have to get...

    Copper question...

Yes.. of course now since I've posted in a separate thread I cannot help but posting more! :rockin: The question is about my new mash tun I built, the manifold is straight copper... and my question involves oxidation! The brewing sanitizer I use works by oxidation, it has percarbonates and...

lol i dont mean to start a fight here! but thanks for the information gentlemen! Calling all 3 Gallon All Grain Recipes

I agree, BeerSmith is the way to go, plug in some values and away it goes!

    Aeration?

Yeah I should make a yeast starter, which by the way, what is the best way in which to go about making a starter? What type of vessel do you use to get the starter going, and it is my understanding that you use some light DME to give the yeast something to feed on?

    Aeration?

Yeah, I was under the impression that a large amount of agitation of the wort before fermentation can introduce oxygen into the oxygen starved environment. And I suppose it did work well as my first AG brew is STILL fermenting and its been 8 days as of today, although I did notice a reduction in...

    Aeration?

Hello all, bout to do my second AG brew this weekend after I've finally built my new mash tun, copper with brass ball valve. And my question is about aeration. What do most of ya'll use for aerating your beer? Would a simple aquarium pump with an air stone work or what? I heard some people use...

    CPVC vs PVC

Yeah I hear that, we decided to make it out of copper. I will have to post pictures of it to ask the question how to seal the hole we drilled. Its a 3/4 inch hole we drilled with a 3/4 inch boring bit, and I was wondering what type of sealant or washers or what not I could use to seal this hole...

    CPVC vs PVC

Thanks for the info FSR. We'll definitely be building a new one, and more than likely with copper tubing, or at least CPVC. Also, as I edited into my last post, we already brewed a batch using this PVC manifold and I wanna know if it is safe to drink. Thirdly, we've got some rubber washers on...

    CPVC vs PVC

We'll we've got some conflicting results here, some saying PVC will leech toxic chemicals into his brew, others saying that hes alright! Is this a serious serious problem, or can he hold off for a couple batches? Edit: And, he mashed a batch 2 days ago and has it fermenting, should we discard...
