Cheers. I'll go back and have a look through posts. Probably should have done a search first, haha.

Please post up how it turns out. I'm really excited to try it but will probably be another 2-3 weeks before I get a chance to brew. Love the descriptors of it but would be nervous to go too heavy handed with it in case it's too dominant, especially being a NZ hop.

Has anyone brewed with Superdelic yet? Picked up 10oz of it and wondering what to pair it with. Reading the descriptions it should go perfectly with the Citra and Riwaka DIPA I'm planning.

The old Speciality IPA category made way more sense to the style of hazy ipas we're brewing today, 21C is a joke.

Ive those issues too with the guidelines as they don't match up with what we would consider perfect examples of the style, especially in the body as you mentioned. There's a guy from New York in my homebrew club who is also a BJCP judge and he's spoken to Gordon Strong about the obvious...

Mine was in the nationals in Ireland, I wouldn't fancy my chances against any of your beers. I know what you mean about the by the book thing. Going for my BJCP in April, did the online exam over Christmas and passed, so tasting exam next. There's so much with the guidelines that don't make...

I have 8oz of Riwaka that I want to use in my next brew. What would be some good hops to pair it with? Thinking Citra for one but looking for possibly another. Kinda burned out on Nelson which is a pity as I've just bought a load of the 23 crop from Yakima, reckon I'm going to give it a miss for...

Thanks for all the feedback on Coastal Haze. After putting in an order so hopefully get a chance over the holidays to try it out.

Thanks for that. Sounds great that you can overbuild successfully too. As it's a blend do you just let it go on the stir plate then split into 2 jars or whatever you use straight away to keep the blend as close as possible to the original? What would your usual mash temperatures be? I like to...

Thanks for the information on it. Do you find it an issue overbuilding starters because this is a blend? How many generations have you pushed this? Attenuation looks good from your numbers.

Any fans of Coastal Haze here? Been using Verdant for a long time now but thinking of trying something different as I've read people say Verdant/LA3 can mute hop flavour and I've been struggling with this on a lot of beers. Coastal Haze sounds like it could be a good option to try. Any risk of...

Could you elaborate on this as I'm not sure what you mean? I use Servomyces in every brew and pitched 2 fresh packs of Verdant.

That's really interesting. My first couple of days with this beer was so encouraging but took a sharp nose dive after that. Over the weekend it had improved (4 weeks in the keg) but still had that alcohol bite that's just not to style. I decided to add another 2oz of Nelson to the keg to try and...

Ah sorry, missed that. Haven't looked here in a good few days so just skimmed over posts. Thanks

Any chance you could post your recipe? My Brujos style is 4 weeks in the keg now. The hop flavour and aroma has improved but the alcohol bite still makes it a challenge. Definitely doesn't taste like I used a 17oz dry hop.

My rule of thumb is as speciality malts and abv go up, efficiency goes down. I'm normally at around 72% for my dipa's but the last was 68% because of the increased oats and wheat.

This post reminded me that I adjusted the points for oats in Beersmith years ago and really helped. Have it set to 1.030.

My efficiency definitely drops brewing these beers especially if they are high on oats and wheat. My last brew was a Brujos inspired DIPA and I only got 68%. I also find I need to mash longer to get the oats to convert. I never really put a time on my mash as I mash till I get the gravity I'm...

Pretty sure they are. I use an Inkbird in the thermowell on my fermenter and a Tilt and both read the same. Hopefully a bit of time will settle things out. Will just have to let this competition go.
