I wouldn't say exactly 1:2:1 but more like 1:1.5:1 The Rakau was very potent in this beer, probably should have use so T90 citra in the mix too, to bring out more citra goodness.

Thanks. It's a great hop combo so have you to thank there. Went with your recommendation of 1:1:1 Riwaka: Citra Cryo: Nelson. I'd over analysed the beer so much I convinced myself it wasn't very good. First time using Riwaka and it's beautiful, bangs of NZ goodness. I got 24 Nelson from hop...

Got gold over the weekend with a score of 44 for this Rakau/Citra cryo/Nelson. Got about half way through best of shoe before getting eliminated. Delighted with the result, highest score ever in a competition too. Very happy with the beer, has great hop saturation and Rakau is a beautiful hop...

Cheers for the recipe. I'll run it through Beersmith and see what I come up with.

I pretty sure I haven't. Its not really a style you see commercially available here. Is it basically a west coast brewed with a lager yeast?

I'm not a Pilsner fan at all but would probably work pretty well in a more modern west coast IPA. Must try and plan one for the summer. Just brewed an old school west coast DIPA last weekend so looking forward to trying it in a couple of weeks.

I must give this a try as I've a good bit of Nectaron to use.

Thanks. Did you find Nectaron totally dominated in those ratios? I did a 1:1 Citra Nectaron a few years ago and Nectaron was all that came through. Still a good beer but the citra was AWOL.

Congrats on the win. What ratio did you go with the hops? I've got some 2024 Nectaron that I want to try out.

@Dgallo just transferred and dry hopped my latest beer this morning, it's your Citra/Nelson and Rakau. Got all the hops from Hop Alliance and going off aroma I'm really impressed. The Nelson actually smells like Nelson, haven't got that distinctive aroma off YVHs Nelson in years. Got 2023 Citra...

I try to go easy for the first 2 weeks at least, for me my sweet spot is 4-6 weeks. I think you've pretty much ruled out everything at this stage except dry hopping in a second vessel so probably should be something you look into next. Doesn't have to be expensive either. Dgallos fermonster hack...

I love that rollercoaster of the first few weeks after kegging a beer. Goes from great to terrible in the space of a few days then back to pretty good. Or terrible to drinkable over a few weeks. Its an interesting experiment to try a small amount every 2-3 days at the start.

I use RO and Bru'n Water like you so I should be in the ballpark but I'll definitely check this out over the weekend when I brew. I'm going with your Rakau, Citra and Nelson recipe. Just got these hops from Hop Alliance so looking forward to seeing how the compare to YVH.

Out of curiosity what should the pH of sparge water be? It's something I've ever thought about. I use RO water and usually add around 1ml of lactic acid. Brewing on Sunday so I must check this.

Going over your posts and trying to come up with something that might help and I keep coming back to the elephant in the room as Dgallo said originally, try and dry hop in a separate keg/vessel after a soft crash. If you do this I really think you'll notice a massive difference especially if you...

Good to know it's possible to overbuild with this strain.

Thanks for the tips. I'll be putting in an order this week for the yeast. Do you harvest or over build your starters on this strain? Wondering is this stain suited for overbuilding considering its a blend.

Perfect. I have G40 so temps are pretty consistent. My LHBS has stock so I'll place an order after the holidays as I don't want it to get stuck in limbo till the new year.

This is actually a fantastic idea to see what a hop brings. I found the same with YVH 23 Nelson, it's pretty rubbish and has little to none of that beautiful Nelson character. Strange that they haven't got any 24 crop yet.

Thanks for the feedback on Coastal Haze. I totally agree with you on knowing how to use and what to expect is so important that's why A24 is driving me nuts as I can't dial it in whereas I knew exactly what Verdant was going to do in every batch, just unfortunately mutes the hops too much. Think...
