Haha indeed, glad I've made a splash! I dig everyone's rigs from the last page and a half, but re: tricking out, I've probably taken it as far as maybe anyone ever will - the reward is 98% the journey, since I hate most beers I make (granted, I'm extremely picky). Electric kettle, HERMS, pump...

I fully agree! One gallon is rad! And oh, dude, I know...oxygen is the problem I'm currently and most seriously addressing, and at this point I don't think I'll ever brew a lager or Kölsch-style ale outside of a fermenter ever again. All else I try and slam relatively quickly, but my fruited...

We immediately start brewing 5 gallon batches, the jig is up. Or, we shrink down to quarts/pints

I use a 2-gallon cooler, but I also have to use a HERMS system for temp consistency - you may lose, say, a degree F every 10 minutes otherwise. Additions of hot water every 20 minutes should offset this As for those tees, the big issue with adding a bunch of space is the increased risk of...

    1-Gallon Brewers UNITE!

So yeah, those are the two options currently - Torpedo kegs or KegLand kegs. I've thought about this a bit, and the big issue is yeast management, since there's a pretty decent amount of yeast and trub that settles in the bottom of a fermenter. One solution, when you'd like to rack from, say, a...

There are a few approaches, but yeah fortunately smoked malt is a thing, and it's by a mile the simplest approach. And I'm sure you will - Bon Appetit!

Joke's on you, I'm a smoke fiend. Here's a recipe from a while back that I remember loving, very heavy on the smoke; I used high pressure lager yeast, but Lutra's probably a better choice, and people seem to dig Kveiks generally with smoke flavors

No prob! And I encourage others to jump in, but I'd recommend anything fairly flavorful, and non-lagered. A few options along those lines would be Bitters, Brown Ales, Porters, Irish Reds (tis the season), Wheat Ales (particularly with fruit), or if you want something lager-y, I'd do a...

No problem! And I've never even looked, but you might as well get practicing with that "Scale Recipe" function, so just plug in any old 5 gallon recipe and give it a whirl The "Add Equip" wizard is the best way to enter your brew system's info, but for reference I've included my system's sheet...

So there are two basic resources for small batch recipes: first, you have the books written for one gallon brewing, like these two (different links) which are solid; and second, good news! All recipes are one gallon recipes If you don't have BeerSmith (fair enough!), you have two options...

Yes, they're lit - the big difference is that they use normal 5 gallon corny keg lids, meaning the O-rings match those you'll find in O-ring replacement kits, and ditto the lids themselves. That's not a huge deal, but the big opening makes them very easy to clean

Exactly, you really do have to kind of choose one for the economics to work out, but my god is that insane volume flexibility worth it. I would love to have even a single 2L and, dare I suggest this should exist, 3L keg (for split batching if nothing else)

Speaking of that, I love my Torpedo kegs, but I've been eyeing these KegLand ones for quite some time now...if you think you might want a 2L once in a while, this offers some flexibility since much of the cost is in the (transferable) lids

Woah! That thing is absolutely rad, and $30? Holy smokes, yeah, I mean screw gaskets if you have a friend with a welder, or yeah maybe silver solder - the point of the tri-clamp is for the thing you're hooking up to that to be temporary, not the connection itself, so yeah that's probably by far...

Someone with more expertise on IPAs is sure to follow with better specific advice, but the broad strokes response: - Welcome to brewing! - I'd recommend just following other people's recipes for, like, 5-10 batches before considering doing your own; even if your recipe is excellent, your method...
