    Perlick Group Buy?

    I'd be in for 4.

    First cider batch started

I'd let it sit until the gravity stops changing for a few days. However, since it sounds like you're going to backsweeten anyway, I'll also offer this idea: rather than backsweetening, you could bottle now, check carbonation daily to avoid bottle bombs, and then move to the fridge or pasteurize...

Best way to stop fermentation for backsweetening?

Here's everything that comes to mind. Plenty of info out there on these techniques so I won't go into detail. No keg required: - non-fermentable sweetener (sucralose, stevia, etc) - pasteurize (see sticky post on this forum) - store in fridge to stop fermentation - backsweeten in the...

    Cider beer line

You should be fine. That's what I use for my cider and haven't had any issues with foam (none of my ciders have even had any head despite being pretty heavily carbonated). Mine is 3/16" tubing so if you got 1/4" you might, from what I understand, see a little more foam.

    carbonation tablets?

That is not the case. The amount of sugar in the carb tabs (assuming you follow the directions) is just the right amount so that, in a couple weeks, you're left with a good level of carbonation and no residual sugar. Fermentation will stop due to lack of sugar to ferment -- no pasteurization...

    Adding any flavour to cider

Most of us get additional apple flavor by backsweetening with apple juice concentrate, but like pappers said, you'd then have to pasteurize (there's a sticky thread in this forum about it), or just store it cold before drinking. I've never seen any apple flavoring but I'm curious what it is. Can...

    carbonation tablets?

I'm not sure what prompted you to ask this question but I think it may be predicated on the underlying misconception that since carb tabs are made of sugar, they count as backsweetening (they don't). The need to pasteurize is not related to using carb tablets. You need to pasteurize if you...

Tips advice before starting this batch.

    1) It will end near FG 1.000 (or slightly lower) so you do the math of how much alcohol you want. Brown sugar can become a dominant flavor if you add too much of it so don't go overboard. 2) Yes. 3) Rack onto cranberries in the secondary. I've done 1 lb per 3 gallons of cider and found...

    A first attempt

This is why I prefer to make a spice extract that I can add drop-by-drop. It's very easy to adjust on the fly rather than having to let it sit on spices for a week. Just take a sample glass of fermented cider and add drops of spice extracts until the flavor is what you're after. Keep track of...

    3rd cider, hopefully 1st success

I've used EC-1118 for a handful of ciders. To me, it creates a very clean but bland cider. The only flavors I've been able to detect are a little residual tannin and tartness but no real apple character. I think ale yeast tend to lend more character to the cider. S-04 and S-05 are both good...

    First cider batch started

Another backsweetening option, if you have fridge space, is to backsweeten, bottle carbonate and then store in the fridge once your desired carbonation is reached since cold will pause the fermentation.

    Newbie to Cider

Sounds like you have a stuck fermentation. Before I started adding nutrient, I would often get stuck around this gravity. I've added nutrient after about a month and found that the yeast picked right back up but you might also want to think about re-pitching since your yeast may not be healthy...

    carbonation tablets?

This definitely work well in cider. Some also contain maltodextrin for head retention, which you probably don't care for in a cider. Tablets are convenient because they are pre-measured doses but if you have a scale, you can add dextrose to prime your entire batch before bottling -- cheaper and...

    First cider batch started

A word of caution, since you mention this is your first batch and may be relatively new to brewing as well: remember that with cider, your FG may be lower than 1.000 due to the all sugars in apple juice being fermentable and alcohol being less dense than water. I rushed to bottle my first batch...

    First cider batch started

I've done this both ways -- dropping into secondary and making tea/extract -- with ginger, cardamom, pink peppercorns, cinnamon sticks and orange peel (separate batches). Generally, I've preferred the tea/extract method to just dropping into the secondary as I found it to give a much...

Rotary Valve Faucet vs Perlick 525SS

ocluke, did you end up getting these? I'm considering them myself but it's hard to find any reviews on them. I want to make sure they're not gonna be an expensive let down.
