    Equipment list, anything missing?

Yeah the wort chiller is on the wish list, and I do hard a birthday coming up in not to long so maybe then. Although I am tempted to just DIY and rig one up from some of the instructions online. I've always enjoyed building things if I can it gives a greater satisfaction.

    Equipment list, anything missing?

Bought a hydrometer with first batch and have a 6.5 gallon aluminum pot for boil/mashing

    Equipment list, anything missing?

So my first brew is conditioning in bottles right now, it is a mr beer american classic light HME with an added lb of light DME. It was definitely an adventure and not because of any technical brewing mistakes but because of kids who put ice cubes and toilet paper inside the lbk during the cold...

2013's How many gal of homebrew in 2013

I'm going to throw in my first brew ever, a mr beer classic american light with some added DME. +2.5 = 1129

    My first brew is ruined!!

So I bottled it tonight after two weeks fermenting, and the last 3 of those days it was cold crashed. I got 23.5 bottles with the last half bottle being an experiment of a high carbonated beer. I used brewers best carbonated tablets, as per instructions it's says four tablets for medium...

    My first brew is ruined!!

I originally had it in a closet but my yeast were a little to happy and it overflowed a bit. SWMBO has a nose like wolverine and could smell it even though she never goes in that closet... So instead she moved it under my sink in our bathroom (makes no sense) so it has been there hidden and out...

    My first brew is ruined!!

So I didn't throw it out today. Instead I sanitized a ladle and scooped out anything that didn't look right. It actually looks ok now... I'll bottle tomorrow and move on to my next brew which will be a 5 gallon batch of a golden monkey clone (Belgian tripel). Just too bad I will always wonder if...

    My first brew is ruined!!

Lol with my limited brewing knowledge I would say its probably not good any more. Toilet paper ice and spit... Maybe I just created a new style! Ill bottle it and call it "little demon spit". It's just crazy that for my first brew I read everything, started out pretty simple, didn't really make...

    My first brew is ruined!!

So earlier tonight I had a splitting migraine that i sometimes get and crashed out super early, like 6 pm. Well... I guess my wife sent the kids up to our bathroom to take a shower, something that they do with no problem regularly, and yesterday I had just placed my lbk in a ice water bath to...

Do you have to be a hop head to appreciate craft brews?

Thank you guys for your input, I will have to email him this thread. While I appreciate the more hop forward beer's place in the beer world I myself favor a malt forward style. The one thing that I have picked up on this forum during my first brew is that there are ALOT of different styles and...

Do you have to be a hop head to appreciate craft brews?

I have a friend who has been homebrewing for a couple months, and has a couple brews under his belt. We got into a "discussion" on whether you have to like a hoppy beer in order to be A true home brewer? He enjoys heavy hopped IPA's and I enjoy more off Belgian tripel or almost any of the less...

    Why?!?

Untappd? What is this you speak of? Surely it can't be something that would cause me to spin further into this addiction that is home brewing
  13. timduncan200021

    Why?!?

Why is this hobby so dang addicting?!?!? I keep trying new craft brews and creating a line up of future brews! Will it ever end?!?

    What are you drinking now?

Snow in an exposed brew? I'd be freaking out. Brave brave man

    What are you drinking now?

I found a store that I have passed every day for 5 yrs that I have never been into that sells an AMAZING selection of craft beers and I picked up a sixer of my favorite beer, golden monkey by victory. AND they had my favorite frozen pizza ever that I have not found in like 5 years, home run inn...

    Mmmmm

I am currently on my first brew, and I'm loving it, and this process has prompted me to start trying a bunch of different craft brews that I have never thought of trying before in an effort to find a style that I enjoy. After trying a bunch I found one that I absolutely love, "golden monkey" by...

First brew, have my fingers crossed

Tested the sg again today. Reading at 1.011 again, tasted very good, the infection that I thought might be present turned out to be nothing and so far very happy with the results. One week in and one more week of fermentation left until I put it into bottles to condition. I am definitely...

    Possible infection?

Thanks for the answers. I was going to let it just sit but then my fears got the best of me so I Sanitized a ladle and scooped out the parts that didn't look too good. I will be keeping an eye on it very closely
  19. timduncan200021

    Possible infection?

Hey how's it going? So I am on my 6th day of fermentation and I opened the lid on the lbk this morning to take a quick peek, (only the second time I've done this), and I found this white spot on the fringe of this group of bubbles. It doesn't look good...

First brew, have my fingers crossed

Good to hear that it shouldn't effect it to much. And I am keeping this mr beer to do small batches in, seems to be pretty useful for that. Anyways.. I went to the lhbs and picked up a fermometer strip and a hydrometer. I went home and stuck the strip about 3/4 of the way down on the outside...
