    brewpot -- Noob needs help

Even for extract, that's kinda pushing it. I would think you'd want at least a 7.5 gal pot (like a 30QT turkey fryer) so you're well clear of boil overs. A lot of the vendors here offer a quality product. I can't think of one I wouldn't recommend. I have a Spike kettle and I like it.

    brewpot -- Noob needs help

6 gallons for what size batch? 6 gal for 2.5/3 gal batch is great. Any bigger than that ... probably not a good idea. Your kettle size is going to vary based on other components of your setup. As for thermometers and valves : having a valve is invaluable. No one wants to mess with...

New way to control Pellet Hop gunk!

I know where to find him, I just recall him saying that he was launching a website and there would be a few new surprises in store. Just wondering how all that turned out and what the surprise was.

If you had a full machine shop, what would you build

Where to even start? A stainless steel open fermenter. I'm using a chest freezer as a fermentation chamber and I always thought it would be cool to have an open fermenter sized to fit it like the wire baskets that come with the freezer. That way it would essentially hang from the frame of...

    Closed-system pressurized fermentation technique!

Wouldn't putting the micromatic co2 filter in line between the keg and the spunding valve be enough to "unsticky" the air before it hits the valve?

what did you use as an enclosure for your control panel?

Nice! A bit pricey though. I wonder if there's anything similar in the $50 range.

So when does the website launch?

I recently disassembled my rig and was grossed out (tell me about your triclamps)

Manual scrubbing I'm ok with! What I don't want to have to deal with is a breaking out a couple of channellocks and a roll of teflon tape every time I have to clean my gear. I want a system where I can easily break down my rig, inspect it, and ensure it's clean. It also seems like I spend 4x...

    Brewing with a 1800 W Induction Cooktop

I'd think the element makes as much difference as pot geometry. I agree that insulating the pot would help a lot in getting you closer to being able to use it in a boil. That Max Burton was exactly what I was using. It looks like you're using some kind of plate meant for the catering...

    Brewing with a 1800 W Induction Cooktop

Been there, done that. I have no idea how they got 5.75 gal to boil on that plate alone. Maybe if you had a heat stick in conjunction with the induction plate. I never hit a boil in my tests. Also keep in mind, you will be putting 70+ pounds (kettle plus 6 gal of wort) on something designed...

    Recommendations for a portable box?

Yeah, that seems like the cheapest option. I just wish it was a bit more compact. The inline stuff out there seems insanely priced.

    Recommendations for a portable box?

That seems odd for dryers considering almost all of them sit next to washing machines that have water spigots and drains. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure you're right, it just seems like the opposite of what you would expect.

    Recommendations for a portable box?

I was thinking on basing the box on 14-30 and making a few small adapter cables (14-30 to 14-50 for instance), but I would definitely scout a place out for adequate power before hand. I had thought about about the dual 120V, but chances are that if it came down to that, finding different 15A...

    Recommendations for a portable box?

As I'm designing my eBrewing BIAB setup, I'm looking to make sure it's super modular and portable since I brew at home, friends' homes, and sometimes do classes at the LHBS. Does anyone have recommendations for a control box that's designed to be hauled around? Spa boxes are nice, but don't...

I recently disassembled my rig and was grossed out (tell me about your triclamps)

So this all came about because I was in a hurry in my last brew day and used muslin instead of fine mesh bags for some hops pellets. They melted into the pot and ended up partially clogging my plate chiller. No big deal, I think, I'll just back flush it with hot Oxy. That seems to clear out...

    Excess kettle(element) caramelization

I only know one person with an electric brewery and he has a full on touchpanel controller, computer, arduinos, etc. He just hits the "Boil" button and can walk away. It wasn't till I emailed him about it and had a cup of coffee that I realized "oh, yeah ... that doesn't work with Auber PIDs...

    Excess kettle(element) caramelization

I'm not sure I agree with that. However, since you're not looking to fix it, it doesn't really matter. Why did you choose to manually control the element over letting the PID do it in full auto mode? I could see how this might have more to do with caramelization than anything.
