    Counterflow chiller cleaning and prep

I put some starsan in my boiling pot prior to starting and drain it through my cfc. Then after I'm all done, I just run water through it to flush it out. Haven't had a problem yet

Converting Coleman Xtreme 70qt to MLT

Hey Janzik - I'm in the process of converting my 70qt Xtreme Cooler with a copper manifold and I'm starting to get worried about the dead space underneath the outlet. Do you have a lot left over in the cooler after you are done mashing? Am I worrying for nothing?

Anyone have starsan mess with their skin pretty bad?

Star San really messes my hands up when I bottle. I guess its the length of time that they are in there from dunking 50 bottles but it drys my hands out something fierce! They peel for days and no amount of lotion seems to help. I should probably wear gloves when I do this but, alas, I am a...

I didn't take any pics either, but I racked off the cake last night after 4 weeks. It looks delicious!

    NorthernBrewers "Golden Dragon"

No prob, i tasted it after 3 weeks and it is obviously extremely boozy but I am looking forward to this one a lot! If it tastes anything like the original by the end then its going to be awesome!

    NorthernBrewers "Golden Dragon"

Yup. I pitched a huge starter and it has been in the primary for just under a month. It finished at 1.007. I'm going to rack it into the secondary soon and leave it there for 2-3 months. From there its going into bottles until it tastes good Edit: Its been sitting at 68 degrees the whole time

    Another AG newbie

I would give the Blackstone Valley Brew Shop another chance. That is where I get all my supplies. You have to call ahead to make sure that he is open though. Its a one man show and his hours due fluctuate but he usually changes his answering machine to reflect his current hours for the week...

    NorthernBrewers "Golden Dragon"

I did the extract version of the recipe from NortherBrewer and my OG was a disappointing 1.072. I too hadn't added the Belgium candy sugar yet but I was bummed that it wasn't higher. All well, I'm still very excited to taste this one in a few months

Good luck man! I'll be jumping in the all grain pool myself in a couple months. Always nice to see another Rhody here

    Help with "The Golden Dragon"

I did the extract version. After 7 days at an ambient temp of 64 degrees it has fermented out. I hit a F.G. of 1.008. Obviously it tastes extremely boozy. I brought the primary out of my basement after the first week to a place that will be warmer (high 70s) where it will sit for another...

    You can't use enough Fermcap-S (anti-foam agent)

I haven't noticed anything other then the fact that I can ferment 6.25 gallons in a 6.5 gallon bucket with no problems. It hasn't affected the taste of my beer at all. As far as exceeding the recommended silicone dose, maybe I can get SWMBO to drink it ;) I'll scale it back next batch though...

    You can't use enough Fermcap-S (anti-foam agent)

Fermcap-S is by far my most favorite ingredient. When I do full 6.5 gallon boils in my 7.5 gallon turkey fryer I make sure to add about 3 full droppers. I have heard people use a lot less but I mainly add that much for peace of mind. Plus it isn't that expensive, so what the hell!

My last one always seems to be the best one, regardless of what style it is

    AHBS Club

I bought this. It seems like a pretty good deal. I bought a few Perlicks with it at the time so I was able to save 8 bucks right then and there. I didn't bother with the shirt or subscription additions. Off Topic: 100 posts! :ban:
