    First Recipe, West Coast IPA

Thanks for the advice. How about changing the 2-row for something like crystal 20? I'm thinking it's mainly for color? And, is 1lb way more than I need for steeping? For some reason 1/2lb seems to stick out through searching...

    First Recipe, West Coast IPA

I read the threads about Sculpin IPA's recipes according to everyone and their momma. I decided I don't need a clone, but rather something similar to it but tailored to what I already have or what I have easy access to. Here's what I'm planning to brew this weekend. Let me know what you...

Thoughts on squeezing beer out of dry hops?

As a new brewer I am confused about the comments about the smallest thing causing oxidation and the threads by Revvy saying oxidation isn't that big of an issue (here: https://www.homebrewtalk.com/f39/bottling-woes-beer-successfully-oxidized-161384/) One thread makes it seem like the tiniest...

Ordered a MRB, but got some extras! Help ID them PLZ?

I live in Eastern Alabama and you shouldn't need a swamp cooler in January. I brewed and New Years Eve and my fermenting bucket is sitting in a closet in the guest room. It's stable at 65 degrees (I don't set my furnace above 68). Once we get into Mar/April and the temps start to rocket up...

Thinking about customizing an extract batch. Please help! Opinions welcome!

I'm a new brewer as well and I'm sure someone will chime in on this with a lot more knowledge than me, BUT... From what I have read on here, it seems like you don't add any fruit until the beer is in your secondary. I assume it has to do with not wanting the fruit to actually ferment (like...

What did you learn this week?

I learned that getting a 5gal bucket and using that for the sanitizer mixture makes everything easier. I also learned that my LHBS, while small and fugly from the outside, actually has a nice selection of hops!

    My patience has run out...

My wife thinks brewing smells better than the espresso machine. I agree...that thing makes nice coffee but it smells like dog's crap covered in burnt hair! She hasn't said a word about fermenting smells and her home office is in the room next to where my beer sits.

    Water Temp Question

Thanks for the help Yooper. I guess I was doing too much reading about sanitation. I'll give tap water a shot next time.

    Water Temp Question

I have a questions about Tamn's questions... I was under the impression you needed to boil the water that you're adding to a partial boil so it is sanitized. Is that correct? Or can you take water straight from the tap and mix it into the wort? Thanks.

    Cheers from Bama/Georgia

Hello! I'm new to brewing and I have been doing a LOT of reading on this forum. I figured I might as well make an account in case I ever have a question that hasn't been answered in a previous thread (unlikely). Anyway, my name is Dave. I'm active duty Army stationed in Georgia but I live on...
