    Fly Sparging - 40gal System

i run my march pumps for hours. both for herms recirculation and sparging. i just use a simple silicone hose that lays on top of the grain bed. I keep 1-2 inches of water over the entire grain bed. i get 90%+ with this method. No fancy sparge arm needed in my opinion. I sparge for...

    Another Temp Controller Thread!?!?

i use the A419 to control my chest freezer for fermentation. i tape my temp probe to the side of my sankey fermenter or carboy with bubblewrap insulating the probe from the air temp. probably would be better to have a thermowell that measured inside...but I don't want to have to clean it...

    Another Temp Controller Thread!?!?

Auberins are also flush mountable. 2362 would be good for on/off temp control.

    HERMS Coil

I would stick with 1/2" personally, just for consistent flow rate throughout my setup. I bought this chiller from midwest, and re-purposed it as my herms coil: Stainless Steel Immersion Wort Chiller w/Garden Hose Fittings 50 ft mine is off center in my keggle hlt. I am recirculating the...

My E-HERMS Build - LOTS OF PICS

yes, that is the exact same fitting I used. if you read my post on installing the coil (post #30), you will see that I ended up drilling out the compression nut to fit around the coil. The coiling process put it into an oval shape that caused it not to fit out of box. depending on your...

My E-HERMS Build - LOTS OF PICS

There is probably a little room to go lower, but my coil is completely submerged during the entire mash. I think Maybe the coil is wound a little too tight and perfectly in the vertical plane. The coils touch each other, and if it were looser vertically, maybe more water could get in between...

My E-HERMS Build - LOTS OF PICS

I use the grounding lug inside the adapter. Even with a gasket, the tri clover clamp creates continuity to the kettle.

My E-HERMS Build - LOTS OF PICS

ok - here are some pics of the first brew last weekend. My beginner buddies came over and decided to brew an extract batch in the driveway, so I spent my spare time helping them, and didn't get as many pics or enought focus time with my brew. filtering brew water. I use an potable water...
