Interesting experiment regarding Trub into the fermenter

I have not done a side by side comparison but it seems like I get more hop flavor when I put the hop sludge into the carboy. Perhaps the extended contact time increases the amount of flavor extraction? It doesn't seem to change the bitterness. I noticed when I left the sudge in the pot in an...

    Grog Tag Damage

Seems like I got a confirmation within 24 hours but I already deleted it so I can't be sure how quick it was.

    Grog Tag Damage

I am finding it is best to run the bottle under warm water. It softens the adhesive and then using the edge of my thumbnail it comes right off. I am afraid that a sharper knife might cut the label. After that I have been putting them back on the original sticker sheet. So far I really like them.

    Considering switching to AG

I have two inexpensive 5 gallon pots. They are just large enough to reach all four burners on my stove to speed up the boil. I use one to mash in BIAB then dunk sparge in the other. About half way through my boil I combine the volume. I add the hops to the pot with the first runnings. It alters...

    That makes sense...hop flavor balance.

What is your Favorite IPA recipe?

Clean beers are my specialty. Simple grist, single hops, subtle flavors. But every few batches I brew something different. Last year it was an Arrogant bastard inspired beer...dark roasty and bitter with piney hop aroma. My beer club loved it...me not so much. I gave out bombers to those that...

What is your Favorite IPA recipe?

I didn't ask what you think my favorite IPA recipe might be. I was asking what the IPA brewers were enjoying. This way I can browse the current trends and pick one to brew based on how much you enjoy it and why. So far I have some good ones to choose from. The berry melon hop IPA sounds...

    Should I add champagne yeast?

With that abv it's gonna be a while. I'm a session beer brewer but I have heard 4-6 weeks or more for abv above 9%. Some pitch a bottling yeast. I usually fill at least one P.E.T. bottle to judge carbonation by the tightness of the plastic bottle.

is sodastream soda maker any good?

Soda Stream works well for carbonating water then you add the syrup. Their syrups are just okay. I never tried to make my own syrups. You can carb other liquids but you must be very careful or it will make a huge mess and clog the valves in the unit voiding the warranty. If they do get clogged...

What is your Favorite IPA recipe?

Thanks for the recipe. Simcoe, Amarillo and Citra. I like your hop combinations. There's that Columbus again. As a bittering addition do you think it add any dankness?
  20. bigdaddybrew

What is your Favorite IPA recipe?

I see Columbus hops in many of the popular American IPA recipes. I was drinking some IPAs at the local brew pubs and started noticing that flavor and couldn't put my finger on it and somebody said "dank". Yeah a little earthy/musty to me. Is that dank flavor important to an excellent American...
