    Partial mashing

Also, if you're planning to do a full boil, don't forget that you are going to boil off somewhere in the neighborhood of a gallon of water in a 60 minute boil (more or less depending on temperature, humidity, equipment, etc). I would suggest starting with at least 6 gallons in your boil...

    Hello from Austin!

Thanks for the welcome funkadelicturkey! Yeah, AHS is great... I didn't know how lucky I was to have that as my LHBS until I started reading here. I hope the first batch turns out OK... no doubt, waiting is going to be the hardest part!

    Hello from Austin!

Hey everyone! Just wanted to pop in here and say "hello". I'm new to both the forum and homebrewing (my first batch has only been in the fermenter for a few days), but I have already found this forum to be an incredible resource. As the title says, I'm from Austin, TX - a great city for...

    New guy with some questions!

Obviously, I can't speak for thony14, but I'm also a n00b and I had plans to start out with AG. I had read "How to Brew" cover to cover and read this forum extensively, so I thought I was ready and up to the challenge. Plus, it just sounds damn fun. Anyway, a few weeks ago, I walked in to...

    AHS partial mash kits

Either way will work fine, but I think I ended up using more sparge water with DeathBrewer's method than the AHS...

    Boil off question

    Boil off question

Wow, thanks Yooper for such a quick and detailed response! :rockin: I'm boiling the water to top it off now. After I add the cooled water, I'll want to get another SG reading, but it seems like I will need to stir and make sure the water is mixed in well to get an accurate reading. Should...

    Boil off question

Hi everyone, Yesterday was my first brew day and things went pretty well overall. However, I do think that I greatly underestimated the volume I would boil off. I did a partial mash kit from AHS and I was shooting for an OG of 1.058. I did a full boil starting with a total volume of 6...
