    1500 vs 1000 watt heatstick

@lud, thanks! I'll probably just buy a portable one. Better safe than sorry.

    1500 vs 1000 watt heatstick

The only outlets with the reset buttons in my house are in the bathrooms, but I will take another look. Is a GFCI adapter the same thing as a surge protector?

    1500 vs 1000 watt heatstick

I don't think the circuit is GFCI protected, so I would need to buy an adapter for it. How do i know if it has protection? There is no "reset" button on that outlet.

    1500 vs 1000 watt heatstick

Is that any more difficult to build it? I was able to slide my oven out of the way pretty easy. With 5500W, i wouldn't even bother using the stove. I'd still keep it on the stove because I have a vent right above it.

    1500 vs 1000 watt heatstick

My 1000 watt bucket water heater on my electric stove can bring 4 gallons of water to a lazy boil. It sounds like full a volume all-grain "brew in a bag" will need to boil as much as 7 gallons from the start. I am worried that my current heat stick won't be able to do the job. I am...

Can't find any resources on how to make the bag for "brew in a bag"

I am ready to jump into all-grain, and want to start with brew in a bag. However, my google-fu is lacking, and I can't seem to find any resources on how to make the bag itself. I don't have a sewing machine, but I don't mind doing it by hand. I am basically looking for a simple how-to which...

    Fermentation stuck at 1.030

Felt like bumping this thread would be better than starting a new one. So, I made a 1.3L starter, put it on the stirplate for 24 hours and then pitched. I also got a space heater for my fermentation room and dialed in the temperature to 70F. Well, after 12 days my gravity only dropped by 3...

Is there a cheap way to keep track of temperature over a period of time?

This sounds pretty neat, and I will look into it. I've always wanted to mess around with arduino.

Is there a cheap way to keep track of temperature over a period of time?

I am looking for something I can tape to the side of my fermentor and have it record the temperature every X minutes. Then, I want to plug it into my computer and see how the temperature has been fluctuating.

    Fermentation stuck at 1.030

Thank you for the lesson. I will need to get a longer beer thief. And hopefully, I'll be going all grain for my next batch.

    Fermentation stuck at 1.030

I took the gravity after topping off, but now you are really making me doubt myself.

    Fermentation stuck at 1.030

@Yooper, I had the grains in the bag and I probably got very poor efficiency. I've never mashed before. I will try adding making a starter.

    Fermentation stuck at 1.030

So, you are suggesting two different things? 1. Either add yeast energizer and warm up the fermenter or 2. Make a starter and add it to the fermneter Yeah, I heard about bottle bombs, and have no desire to experience them.

    Fermentation stuck at 1.030

I didn't think providing too many details would be necessary, sorry. I used the yeti clone recipe from here Brew Your Own: The How-To Homebrew Beer Magazine - View by Issue - December 2006 - Tasting Double and made it with extract. I did aerate by shaking the carboy for a few minutes. The...

    Fermentation stuck at 1.030

I tried brewing an imperial stout, which came out to 1.072 OG. After a month in the basement, my SG was 1.030. I think that was due to the temperature. So, I racked to secondary and moved it to a warmer room two weeks ago. The gravity is still 1.030, but it tastes pretty good. Is it dangerous to...

Is this a decent pot for 5 gallon batches?

I didn't think it would make a difference, but I figured I should mention it anyway.

Is this a decent pot for 5 gallon batches?

Thanks for all the replies. One thing I didn't mention is that I intend to use it on a stove top with a home-made heat stick.

Is this a decent pot for 5 gallon batches?

I decided to stop drooling over the $300+ Boilermaker and found this 8 gallon pot. It looks like a pretty decent price. Would this work well?

Will 3 lbs of LME + 6 lbs of honey work for my first attempt?

I'll head over to my LHBS today, and brew this weekend. Might make good gifts next year.
