Calculating starting water volume for BIAB

Oh, I found it! It appears it's not noted on the recipe, but it still accounts for it!

Calculating starting water volume for BIAB

Where in Beer Smith do I see that option though? I see the option for boil off, but not for grain absorbtion

Calculating starting water volume for BIAB

Thank you for the tip! I will run my test again tonight with water to see how much will boil off.

Calculating starting water volume for BIAB

I bought it a while ago, just because everyone who's mentioned it, raved about it. I can't figure out how to account for loss of water in the grain.

Calculating starting water volume for BIAB

I got a 10 gallon brew pot, and built a 2,000W heatstick. I filled it with 6 gallons of water today, set it on my electric stove and plugged in the heatstick. When the temperature reached about 200F, I realized that I never turned on the stove burner. I was hoping it would speed up my boil...

Getting the chilled wort from kettle to fermenter

Sweet! I'll pick up some vinyl tubing. I am glad I stopped keeping track of how much this hobby is costing me.

Getting the chilled wort from kettle to fermenter

I got a 10 gallon pot with a 1/2" NPT Weldless Compact valve with 3/8" flow port. I didn't think when I purchased it, but I am not sure what I need to get the wort from the pot to the fermenter? Would this work? Husky 5-Piece 3/8 in. Hose Repair Kit Also, what material hose do I need...

Do I need to seal the rubber part of the water heating element on my heatstick?

I am being paranoid, but better safe than sorry. I may just go and pick a different kind of sealant and coat the outside of the nut. I did so much reading, but missed the huge 50+ page thread which talked about ways to improve the design from http://www.cedarcreeknetworks.com/heatstick.htm

Do I need to seal the rubber part of the water heating element on my heatstick?

Is that sufficient? Just tasting the water? Can something undetectable leech into it?

Do I need to seal the rubber part of the water heating element on my heatstick?

Crap, mine is already sealed with JB Weld. I doubt I can salvage anything from it.

Do I need to seal the rubber part of the water heating element on my heatstick?

I am not worried about the leaks, but about something leeching into my beer. I looked through a bunch of pictures of heat sticks, and I can't tell what others have done with the rubber seal.

Do I need to seal the rubber part of the water heating element on my heatstick?

It's the black part right under the thread on the heating element http://i.imgur.com/0juEG.jpg You can see some black stuff exposed, and that's the rubber.

Do I need to seal the rubber part of the water heating element on my heatstick?

I built a heatstick yesterday, but noticed that there's an thick exposed piece of rubber at the connection end. Does that need to be sealed with JB Weld, or will that be OK in the boil?

    That's a bit dramatic :)

Looking for a cheapest heatstick cord for 20A circuit with a 2000W stick

There are two good tutorials that come up about building a heatstick http://www.cedarcreeknetworks.com/heatstick.htm http://www.3d0g.net/brewing/heatstick 3d0g.net step 10 is making me worried. cedarcreeknetworks.com doesn't mention anything about draping the ground wire over the brass pipe...

Looking for a cheapest heatstick cord for 20A circuit with a 2000W stick

I am in the process of replacing my electrical outlet with a 20 amp CFGI outlet. I know the circuit is 20 amps, because that's what the circuit breaker says. Thanks for the extra info, I may try to run to home depot later tonight.

Looking for a cheapest heatstick cord for 20A circuit with a 2000W stick

I got all the pieces for my heastick, except the cord. According to a tutorial, I need a 12 gauge cord, but the only one I found is very thick, and not pliable enough for something like a heatstick. I looked at extension cords to take apart. I found some at lowes that claim to be 16 gauge...

    1500 vs 1000 watt heatstick

Doesn't seem that difficult at all. Famous last words

    1500 vs 1000 watt heatstick

I really don't have a problem with replacing an outlet. How hard can that be? Is there a good site where I can read up in this stuff?
