    Aluminum Pot/oxidation layer is myth?

This seems like a lot more of what has been posted many times before. Opinions with no real facts or data to back it up. I'm not saying I know everything because I read a couple other websites or anything. I'm far from an expert on cleaning or brewing. I'm just offering up the idea that it might...

    Aluminum Pot/oxidation layer is myth?

Everywhere I read in this forum it seems to say that you should never use an abrasive like steel wool on an aluminum pot and that you need to have an oxidized layer on your pot before brewing with it? But, if you search google, and other cooking/cleaning boards steel wool seems to be recommended...

treating copper after using steel wool

If I use steel wool to clean the green off my copper wart chiller do I need to treat it with anything before letting it come in contact with my wart? Is there anything that can be done to keep it looking nice and shiny?

how to amp up a kit

I have brewers best kit for and American Pale Ale. I've done it a few times before so I was thinking I might like to buy some extra specialty grains at the LHBS and try to make it into an Imperial Pale Ale instead. Any suggestions? Should I just get more of the same grains it already comes with...

Just thought I'd share. I pretty much use the same template for all my beers and just swap out the info and background graphic.

    ?'s About Steeping Specialty Grains

So I just noticed that the bottled water I purchase for brewing has a phone number to call for water quality information on it. I called the number and they are going to send me a water report. I'm interested to see what it says.

    ?'s About Steeping Specialty Grains

I guess I assumed store bought Spring water would be within a specific range but maybe that is not the case. I think I'll get some of those PH testing strips and check next time. I guess my personal preference would be to steep in the full 5 gallons if I can but if it means a lower quality beer...

    ?'s About Steeping Specialty Grains

so, if I read this correctly then the rule "steep small. boil big." is really only a factor if your water has high levels of PH. I always purchase spring water for my beers. Is it safe to steep in 5 gallons, or should I still be using a smaller amount?

    Bbottling temp/priming sugar question

Thanks. That the best explanation I've read so far.

    Bbottling temp/priming sugar question

I fermented my beer (India Pale Ale) for a week at about 65ºF. Yeast was Safale 05 with recommended fermentation temperature: 59º-75ºF. I then let the temp rise to about 70º for a few days to help the yeast finish up. I then cooled the beer back down to about 55º for a week and then racked to...

    Shake it or not ?

I thought I heard it was good to swirl it around once in a while during dry hopping.

Is Palmer wrong about priming sugar?

This is mostly over my head but very interesting to me. I hope someone figures this out so I can just do what I'm told. :)

how to add pure maple syrup to beer alchemy

Thanks, but I'm still a little confused how to add it. I get the 35L part but I'm not sure how 29.9 gravity per gallon translates into an extract percentage. 75% is the default when adding a new item and most of the other sugars have numbers in the 80's and 90's. All of the other sugars have 0%...

how to add pure maple syrup to beer alchemy

I just realized I can add new ingredients to the list. I just need to know the color, extract % etc. Does anyone know how to do this for Grade A pure maple syrup?

how to add pure maple syrup to beer alchemy

I'm trying to figure out how the addition of maple syrup to a brewers best beer kit will effect my recipe but since this is my first time using this software I'm not seeing how to add the maple syrup. Under the fermentables tab there are several sugar options but no maple syrup. What would be...

    Dry hop temp question

I have an IPA recipe that I brewed on May 1st. After the boil I poured the whole pot into the primary. OG was 1.054. I let it sit for 24 day at 65º-66º. I just racked it to secondary today. Gravity was 1.014. My recipe says Dry hop (Centennial Leaf hops) for 7 days, but my question is what temp...
