    American Stout Rhinestone Carboy

How'd the 2nd brew go @Jayjay1976? I'm designing an American Stout I'm planning to brew in a week or so hopefully. Found a whisky barrel aged chocolate malt I'm going to give a go in the recipe and finally try out Imperial A10 darkness.

    Spike Kettle

Realize this is a few months old but I drilled my 10 gallon Spike kettle to use a BoilCoil. A carbide tipped hole saw made easy work of it. Spike won't drill the 5/8" holes for you, I asked. I'm using the NPT fittings and haven't had any issues.

Simple Pale Ale hop sampler brew

Checking in. First batch is about halfway through the mash and almost to preboil gravity. Calculated is 1.038 right now measuring at 1.036. So far so good. Edit: 1st batch boiling now, ended with 1.040 preboil gravity after 60 minutes.

Simple Pale Ale hop sampler brew

@tracer bullet thanks for that link. A simple grist is also what I'm using. Although different from what was mentioned there, it still lets the hops shine while still providing a malt backbone. I'm also thinking of using it to compare the differences in flavor compounds developed between yeast...

Simple Pale Ale hop sampler brew

My 5.5g kettle certainly requires insulation and the lid partially on to get a decent boiloff so a heat stick could be helpful there.

Simple Pale Ale hop sampler brew

@RM-MN The limitation in my test batch setup is due to the kettle capacity. It holds just shy of 3 gallons at 2.8g measured by weight. Depending on the grain bill i can do full volume mashing yielding anywhere from 1 - 1.5g into the fermenter. The boil is actually pretty vigorus on the stove or...

Simple Pale Ale hop sampler brew

@CascadesBrewer I skipped over their hop sampler episodes since I was brewing kits at the time but I'll have to revisit those. I'm targeting 1.5 gallons into the fermenter since that's about the limits of my stove top setup. I have adjusted the IBUs in my software to keep it as consistent as...

Simple Pale Ale hop sampler brew

@Spivey24 I definitely will combine all three. I actually like Magnums clean bittering ability and will most likely use it for that purpose when I combine everything in the final brew. My main reason for not doing so in the solo trials is to see what flavors they develop on there own. While I'm...

Simple Pale Ale hop sampler brew

All ingredients ordered and estimated to be here by Friday. It'll be my 1st time using Viking Malt so that'll be interesting. Planning on a double brew day Saturday and the 3rd and final next Sunday if all goes well so they can all be sampled as close together and as fresh as possible.

Simple Pale Ale hop sampler brew

@RCope interesting, I was given to understand that there wasn't much to be gained between 5-10 minute additions and flameout additions. I appreciate the feedback and I'll adjust my recipe accordingly. I'd really like to understand the hop contributions so I can adjust the final recipe to it's...

Simple Pale Ale hop sampler brew

@RCope I had considered Magnum for the bittering as I have enough on hand and I'm familiar with it but decided to keep it to a single variety for now. Do you think there will be a noticeable difference between a flameout addition and the late hop schedule you listed? I might have to do a second...

Simple Pale Ale hop sampler brew

@RM-MN If my past experience with Lutra is any guide it won't take long.

Simple Pale Ale hop sampler brew

I'm looking to start designing my own recipes and I'm going to start with a pale ale. I'll be using a 3 gallon kettle and induction cooktop and lutra to crank them out fast. The first three batches will be 97% pale malt, 3% Caramel/Crystal 20L. Each batch will get either Amarillo, Citra, or...

What happened to Eaton GFCI circuit breakers?

I think I'm between the DIN rail option and a 30 amp in-line GFCI, barring them being cheap junk. Does anyone have experience with worldcordset? I originally came across them through YouTube while watching @highland_brewer build an in-line GFCI but I don't think I've read any threads sharing...

What happened to Eaton GFCI circuit breakers?

That's interesting. Seems like a much easier to find and cheaper solution than any other option I've come across. Edit: reply to @Ozarks_Mountain_Brew suggestion of DIN rail mounted gfci.

What happened to Eaton GFCI circuit breakers?

Thanks for all the replies. I wondered how different one brand/type breakers were from others. From my understanding mixing brands/types was against code. I found some in-line gfci solutions worldcordset's (I think that's right) website. Might have to go that route or spa panel.

What happened to Eaton GFCI circuit breakers?

@Deric that might not be a bad idea. I might be able to get a local electrician to source one and sell to me.

What happened to Eaton GFCI circuit breakers?

Wondering if any of you know why Eaton seems to be more and more scarce lately. I have a Eaton/Cutler Hammer panel with type CH breakers and finding a 240v gfci version seems nearly impossible lately. I'm not sure if they are just not producing this type anymore or if it's a worldwide shortage.

    Blichmann Power Controller Holding Temps?

I have considered using my itc-308 & a thermowell in the kettle lid to monitor temperature during the mash. I know I could build a PID for true control but I'm trying to get the most out of my current equipment before I go through a more significant process overhaul.
