Poor man’s valve tree- 3v rims with in line chiller

Pretty cool. The only time I spill anything is the drops from hose swaps.

    Electric setup

I run, and have for years, two 1650w elements on separate circuits for both my hlt and bk. I have never popped any breakers while brewing. Both circuits are 15a. Am I risking a fire?

What I did for beer today

Tapped my mini fridge today. I was using picnic taps since I sold my old keezer build, but they all broke this week. I guess they only last about 3 years and countless brews hahaha. I had some shiny taps laying around so I plugged them one into my fridge and now I got cold beer right outside my...

HERMS Grain Basket Recirc Gummy... Mess

I had a similar issue in an ebiab set up I threw together. I found that if I recirculated into the basket it had the potential to become stuck. If I whirlpool back into the kettle with the grains but not into the basket the wort would flow into the basket and back out. I was able to control...

    New eBIAB with Inverted Keggle?

I have an inverted bottom drain keg as a biab kettle. I cut the keg at the seam where the bottom skirt meets the actual keg body to make for a very large 15 inch opening. I'm using an anheiser straight side keg so there is plenty of room for mesh bag. I use a ss basket though, because it sit on...

Is it okay if the elements touch each other?

New bk build done, but I placed two 1650w elements in my bk and they slightly touch in a very small spot. Will this cause issues? Should I pull and give them a small bend to make some space?

    Switch to E-Brewing - Opinions, Pro's & Con's

Pros- Much better heat control. When done right there is much less chance of injury since there will be gfci and no has or open flame. With electric boil over should be pretty nonexistent, and depending on the stage you can pause or extend the brewing session to suit your schedule (long or...

Having trouble with 1st try at Hard Seltzer

Also "no activity" after a day of foam suggests there was fermentation. Were hydrometer samples taken to measure gravity or is the activity a reference to the airlock?

What I did for beer today

Picked up 55lbs of 2 row and 55 lbs of belg pills, and two different yeast strains, came home put the grain in gamma sealed buckets and made a starter with some of the extra grain. Mashed the all grain starter in my smoker since my oven doesn't fo that low. Worked great!

    End of the world supply

I brewed 3 batches staggered to keep a fresh supply going, but didn't have time to get grain. I have 25 lbs of sugar and a bunch of crystal malt. Might use the crystal for color and flavor and sugar as the fermentable, and see how that turns out.

What I did for beer today

Put on some of what I hope to be final touches on making my bk from my herms into an ebiab set up. I had the extra parts for a mash recirculation so in it went. This will give me some flexibility on brew days, and time will tell if it saves any time lol.

    Compact HLT and MT build

Very interesting take on a tippy dump mash tun, I dig that. I wish I could weld, I should probably learn. Good job!

    No chill hardware mods?

Brewer from California, so water is tight here too. I started using red solo cups and Tupperware to make ice blocks. I have a standard fridge as my kegerator so the freezer section holds hops and makes ice. I usually fill my hlt to cover half the coils and add ice to bring the water level over...

use immersion chiller to keep the mash warm

Take the chiller and put it into the kettle. Pump wort from mash tun to chiller and back to mash tun. Adjust the heat in the kettle with the chiller and boom you have a portable herms coil.

Low Watt Density heating elements - what density can be assumed safe for heating wort?

I use dernold 1650w elements and have two in my bk. I had to scale back from their 2000w elements, which are not lwd. I haven't experienced issues with scorching with either of these unless I turned the element off and let the trub settle and then turned it back on.
