    Primary > Secondary

It sounds like there is a real debate about secondary fermentation. I have very limited space and equipment. If I were to do it, I would poor the wort into a sanitized bucket, clean out my primary, and poor the wort back as was previously suggested by Dan, if I read it right. Better off not...

    No steeping grains at all?

American Pale Ale 15 Minute Cascade Pale Ale

If I use like 3 gallons for the boil, do I need to boil or steep longer? Any down side to boiling or up side to boiling a little longer?

    it still tastes bad

Thanks a lot. I'd say based on your information, the US-05 is not a mistake but rather a step in the right direction. I have now fermenting away a batch of what is supposed to be an Autum Amber, not really sure what that means, with some extra hops I threw in at the beginning and end. The US-05...

    that may be it.

Would you also recommend steeeping for less than the recommended 30 minutes?

    it still tastes bad

I've ordered the us-05 and intend to make an English ale. I'm confused; You seem to say, I think, Mutons is no good but Salale US-04 is good, but it is at the same time similar to Mutons? What am I missing? Alos, if you are looking for a less sweet beer the us-05 is the yeast of choice, is...

    it still tastes bad

Thanks. Its a very hard taste to discribe, and in some batches its not as bad as some. One I thought was almost good, definately drinkable but there was a trace. Others I thought were just bad, some people thought were fine or at least drinkable. But every batch, every recipe seems to taste the...

Thanks to you and others for all the advise. Just one more thing, as to yeast. IF the issue is poor quality or not enough yeast, what will the beer look like and taste like?

thanks. I know a guy who uses Muntion's with good results, so its just hard to know, but I've ordered Safile or whatever it is. I also wonder if the 5 oz pack is too little, but that same gys says no, others say you need like two packs

But if the boil itself is bigger, say 3 gallons instead of t2 for a 5 gallon batch, is that better for hop utilization / taste?

I don't think that's the problem as its the same if I just poor off a sip into a glass.

    it still tastes bad

I think I can boil up to 3 gallons, I use the electric stove which is about 15 years old. It takes about 40 minutes to get 2 gallons up to boil and I don't do a roaring boil, just a bubbeling kind of boil. I don't add sugar untill bottling, then 5 oz. corn sugar. No sun light at all. I've...

So here is the question. Assuming the RO water I have is in fact RO and done well and filtered as advertised and all, is OR better / worse or the same as distilled water. Keep in mind the distilled water could be sitting around fro months after spending a few weeks on a boat. The more water used...

the pot is only for brew. The RO WATER is $2 for 5 gal. The distilled is $2.50 per gallon

thanks. The RO water and distilled water are sold in bottles. The tap water here is full of lime and salt and I assume clorine and basically tastes bad so I would not use that. The ice is suposedely made from RO water, the same as the bottled drinking water I use. My options are the local RO...

    it still tastes bad

thanks a lot. This is all good info. My OR water is in a 5 gal jug, so I used half of that in the boil, then used distilled to cool the boil just because I thought I should use distilled and its in 1 gal jugs so I can chill it. I also am not sure I trust the companies that make the 5 gallon...
