    A little too sweet

Thanks guys. I tasted the beer today (a little over a week after bottling) and it taste great not too sweet. A little over carbonated for my likes though. I have a hydrometer, I just was unable to get a sample for the OG with out risk of contamination (poor planning). I didn't think to take...

Noob adding hops to wort question

Hi, this is my second batch My nylon bag broke when I was seeping the grains. I strained it out by attaching the bag to a strainer after it was seeped. The question I have is can I add the hops directly to the wort with out a bag?

Is there something I could use besides DME?

White Labs liquid yeast starter question(s)

I figured it would be okay, but not ideal. I think I'm going to just pitch it in and plan better next time. Write it off as a learning experience. Otherwise I have to wait till next week to brew.

White Labs liquid yeast starter question(s)

I'm ready to make my next batch (this will be my second if you don't include MrBeer batches) Up until now I have used dry yeast and simply re-hydrated it before the pitch. For my next batch I decided to use a liquid yeast from white labs. Do I need to make a starter? I was planning to brew...

How to convert AG to partial mash or extract

I'm fairly new to homebrewing and I bought a recipe book for when I'm done with buying kits. I soon realized that they are all for AG. Anyway I found a pretty good document online that talks not only about how to convert recipes form AG to partial mash or exact only. There are also many other...

    grapefruit pale ale

I know "Brooklyn Brew" has a Grapefruit Ale recipe ... I think its not an IPA but I'm not 100% sure. I have their book @ home (which I'm not) I will look it up for you when I get home if I remember.

    A little too sweet

I don't recall what strain. It was a dry yeast that came with the kit. I hope that the carbonation will knock out some of the sweetness. I was just looking ways to improve my next batch. I bought liquid yeast this time and I hope to make a heat stick to increase the boil. Thanks for all the...

    A little too sweet

6 lb. Dark liquid malt extract, 4 oz. Chocolate Malt, 4 oz. Caramel 10L, 4 oz. Roasted Barley, 4 oz. Flaked Barley specialty grain, 1 tsp. Gypsum, 1/2 oz. Nugget, 1 oz. Willamette pellet hops, yeast, priming sugar and a grain bag. It's possible.....but even for a stout it was pretty sweet.

    A little too sweet

Hi guys, I'm new to this site and new to homebrewing (I did a few batches with MrBrew a few years back and now moved up to partial mash in a 5 gallon bucket). I just tasted a sample of my first brew before bottling (An Irish Stout) and it tasted a little too sweet. I do not have OG or FG...

    Bottling question

The reason is that I don't have much room it would be easier if I could store them on their sides. I realize though that some yeast would probably settle on the side and a couple of hours in the fridge might not settle it. I think I will give up space for a good beer.
