    Using bleach, couple Q's

This will prolly be me, cuz how do you know when it is all rinsed? Probably no definitive way? But won't the same go for OxiClean?

    Using bleach, couple Q's

Thanks a mill! I have been hearing Oxiclean is the way to go. I will try that next, I was getting ready last minute to bottle tonight and bleach was all I had readily available. Hope I don't screw this up. ;)

    Using bleach, couple Q's

So I filed up a Igloo cooler with all my bottles and I mixed 8 gallons of water with 8 tbsp of bleach (1 per gallon) and I lit it sit over night I opened up the cooler today and was taken aback by the fumes, it was almost as strong as my pool chlorinator, that once turned on after sitting a...

Is it possible to use TOO much yeast?

so when using washed yeast how do you know how much to use? Just exp in eye balling it or what? (I read the sticky thread in the yeast forum). What does racking have to do with the yeast? Some people don't even use a secondary. It seems everyday I get more and more confused browsing this...

    Straining wort before fermentation

I just ordered the variety pack of bucket filters from that ebay shop lol. I found out the hard way that a cheap, FLAT dollar store splatter screen was not going to do the trick when the muck piled up on top of it and some wort spilled on the floor.

Is it possible to use TOO much yeast?

LMAO, that is one of the best replies I have gotten this board.

Is it possible to use TOO much yeast?

I was just curious if that this was possible? The reason I ask is, I was reading up on washing yeast. And I was thinking that your prolly not getting all the yeast you could doing that. But I guess it doesn't matter cuz the yeast multiply right? And if they have a good environment than...

    My first Gravity Reading

so the closer the reading is to the 1.000 mark means that the gravity is low and there lower in alcohol? And a "higher" reading of say 1.045 would have more alcohol in it? I am saying this correctly as well? Closer to 1.000 are low readings, the further away from that is "HIGHER" gravity?

    Straining wort before fermentation

I strained mine (just did my first brew a few weeks ago) and I wouldn't want all that crud in there. I think it just makes sense to strain it and get it out. Less stuff floating in your beer. Plus straining aerates that wort nicely which is definitely needed for fermentation.

Still going, pics and Q's inside

Thanks guys! And I got the foam snake too! hahaa, I shoudla took a pic it was so funny. I thought it looked like a big dutie tho, ;) Thanks for the tips on the plug, I think its a uni, its like a off white rubber plug. I wasn't thinking ahead when it came to that piece, but this is...

Still going, pics and Q's inside

Ok, so I am like halfway thru my first brew ever. Seems to be going as planned. (I need a bigger kitchen and sink!) So I sanitized my secondary with Star San, and got lots O' Foam and could not get it out for the life of me, so I racked it anyway. Pushed most of the foam out but is it OK...

    Taking gravity readings...

thanks guys. Temp in my house is a steady 67 degrees. I will have to check it out a little more to get the temp correction. It would seem I a bit off from the FG that the instructions list. What exactly does this affect?

    Show us your Kegerator

But they wont have MY brew in them. Or can you refill them?

    Show us your Kegerator

well yea, cuz if I could use the Heiny mini keg dispenser thingy then I could leave it on my kitchen counter. That thing is not very big. Something like this if I could fill my own mini keg.

Making a starter from washed yeast?

that is rather cool! And saving money is always good. I now have a good read for work tomorrow, :) thanks.

    Taking gravity readings...

I guess I am supposed to count backwards? I still dont get it. If I was to count backwards it would look like 7 to me from 10. I guess that would also mean that my fermentation is not quite finished yet? Cuz the kit called for 1.012 FG EDIT: No wait, I am confusing myself. I see it now...

    Taking forever to cool down

I cooled my wort in under 30 mins. I filled my whole sink with ice, set the pot on top and filled up the sink with cold water. The pot floating in the ice bath I put the lid on and kept spinning it around and around. Cooled off so quick I almost went too cold.
