Double IPA Dogfish Head 90 Minute Clone

yeah 90 minute is one tasty beer! Different liquid yeast packets have different instructions. Smack packs need to come out of the fridge much earlier than others that can be taken out and directly added to the wort. Make sure you read the back for proper instructions. 70 degrees is fine for...

    Grainfather!!

Are you dropping the overflow down as low as it will go during mash? I don’t think I’ve ever not had wort flow through it even when I’m throttled down. This might be because I’m always using 13-15 pound grain bills

I want to go into All-Grain

Check out the grainfather (if it’s in your price range). I absolutely love mine. Super easy to use, WiFi enabled with pre-heating so you can get a jump on brew day. The brand is bullet proof and will replace anything if you have problems. I know there a few threads floating around about the...

    Grainfather/hopspider

I use hop shots for bittering instead of early hop additions. I feel comfortable adding 2-3oz of loose hops for 5-10 min additions before flameout. I’ll drop the basket in with 5 minutes left and hit it hard with flameout and whirlpool hops. Ill try adding it earlier this time and see how good...

    Grainfather/hopspider

I started off with one of those but soon found out there isn’t enough room for 10-15 oz hop additions to properly steep. Brewing heady topper just overloaded the spider. I also really love the big basket because My whirlpool gets all the hop matter in full contact with the wort. Not saying you...

    Grainfather/hopspider

Yes, it cost me about $200 to get it fabricated and shipped. Honestly, if you do heavy hopped beers, this will pay its weight in gold when you don’t have to unclog stuck pumps or other problems while transferring to the fermenter. I like the open basket instead of a mesh bag because I get higher...

    Concerned with mash water retention

So are rice hulls that critical? I’m just shocked.... my grain crush does a great job leaving the hulls in tact to help sparge. Guess it’s time to buy that **** in bulk!

    Concerned with mash water retention

Also yes, after the 60 minute regular sparge, I pulled it out and put in in a pot to collect any extra runoff.

    Concerned with mash water retention

Ah. Ok. I stirred that grain bill to hell and back while trying to sparge. Even with the beating of its lifetime, it didn’t do anything.

No rice hulls. That picture is after I did a 60 minute sparge. I started with 6.5 gallons of water and ended up with less than 4.75.

    Concerned with mash water retention

The local brewery this recipe supposedly came from (can’t verify if it’s an actual clone) has just super dense beers unlike most I’ve drank before. They taste great, I just want to understand how to handle oats and wheat in the future.

    Concerned with mash water retention

Hey guys, ive been brewing all grain for the last 6 months, mostly DIPAs and such with straight grain bills. Tonight I decided to try a NEIPA recipe with 2+ lb oats. To my surprise, there is soooooo much water retention in mash, and my sparge went to **** compared to my usual routine. is this...

    SS Brewtech Keg Cleaner

Had to revive this thread after getting my waSSher today. Picked it up on sale during Black Friday (couldn’t justify $210). Now I’m heading back to Home Depot to return all the parts I bought for a diy cleaner. Super impressed with the pressure coming out of the CIP ball.
