    Strong Bitter Common Room ESB

I'm using a 5gallon pot, usually mashing about 2 1/2 pounds of grain. So far, it's all been kits from AHS (my local store) so this is breaking new ground for me ;) Crisp Maris Otter 10 lbs, 0 oz Crisp Crystal Malt 60L 0 lbs, 12 oz Crisp Crystal Malt 120L 0 lbs, 4 oz So, 1lb for the...

    Strong Bitter Common Room ESB

Keen to try this out as I've got some Kent Golding hops sitting in the freezer & I love ESBs.... Anyone got a good partial mash version of it?

    Weetabix Hefe....muahahaha

It's around. Health food stores stock it for sure & I've seen it at Safeway grocery stores too.

Is there an adapter to attach metric thread tap handles to a U.S. thread faucet?

Are European tap handle connections smaller or larger than the US standard size?

    What the Pail?

You can buy a "lid opener" at Home Depot etc for a couple of bucks that makes easy work of getting those lids off. I think AHS sells them now too.

    Just finished fermentation chest.

Got a link to that "easy idea"? :)

    Christmas Presents!

I got the same Craft of Stone Brewery book as TonyR, looks cool. Also got tap handles for my kegerator (Sierra Nevada & a "shortie" Dogfish Head one that doesn't fit...). And a cool DFH cap ;)

Dogfish shortie tap handle doesn't fit!

My wife gave me a great gift of a pair of tap handles for my kegerator to replace the basic plastic ones I've been using for the past few months. The Sierra Nevada one fits fine, but the other, a "Shortie" Dogfish head one, has a totally different attachment size that's a good bit narrower than...

Jester King craft brewery (Austin, TX) has some balls!

Specs & larger HEBs both sell their bottled beer - Black Metal Stout usually & their Witchmaker Rye (both of which are excellent).

    Any Midnight brewers?

What jponder said. I've got two preschool kids, a busy job, and a wife in teacher training every other weekend. There's near zero chance of getting a solid brew session done with the kids about, so I brew at night. I'm a fairly new brewer, and every brew bar the first one has been in the...

What does your LHBS do to keep you coming back?

My local homebrew store is Austin Homebrew Supply, and is under 2 miles from where I work... I've nothing much to complain about. :) They keep me coming back because of the *great* advice/help I get in-store, the great prices & top notch selection.

    Alternatives to Newcastle Brown Ale?

Grabbed a 4-pack of the Samuel Smiths Nut Brown Ale. I'll let y'all know the feedback ;)

    Alternatives to Newcastle Brown Ale?

I'm not tied to a US Craft, just thought it might be a nice mix - brown ale/craft. I'll see what Specs has in stock from Samuel Smith, they've usually got a good-ish selection.

    Alternatives to Newcastle Brown Ale?

Tumbler's a good suggestion, I'll have to give that a taste ahead of time ;)

    Alternatives to Newcastle Brown Ale?

My wife's looking to get some beer for a friend as a gift. He's a /big/ Newcastle Brown Ale fan, rather than a craft beer fan per se, and she wants to open up his taste buds a little. Any suggestions on a good US craft brew for a Nookie Broon fan? I'm in TX, so keep that in mind for...

    So who's brewing this weekend?

I'll be brewing an English Pale Ale partial mash tomorrow. Grains from AHS, but the hops will be my own... My first step into /not/ strictly following a kit... I'm excited :)

    Drilling Frustration

Picked up a bi-metal hole saw... And that was that, drilled through the door with *zero* troubles. Two taps now all set up. Thanks for listening to my venting & giving me good advice, people!

    Drilling Frustration

The drill is variable speed. It's old, but it rocks :) The bit isn't painted orange or white... I suspect that's the problem, that it's just rated for wood. Time to hit up a better hardware store than Home Depot.
