    6 week beer

6 weeks is definitely too young for a RIS IMO. Blonde ale, IPA, or pale ale would all be done within 6 weeks no problem. US-05 or S-04 would be good yeasts (S-04 ferments fast and drops like a rock... it's nice that way)

Specialty IPA: Black IPA Dirty Thirty Black IPA

Made this beer in time for my 30th birthday, hence the name. I've received some good feedback on this brew, so figured I'll toss it up. Title: Dirty Thirty Black IPA Author: Matthew Homebrew Brew Method: All Grain Style Name: Specialty IPA: Black IPA Boil Time: 60 min Batch Size: 11 gallons...

I'm in the same boat. My buddy is rolling a Witch Doctor... I'm on the fence. Maybe a barb, maybe a monk I just re-subbed to WoW. Totally worth it.

Size brew kettle for 10 gallon all grain batches,,,

I do 10gal (end product volume) AG batches. Which means my post-boil volume is normally 11-12gal. I'm normally starting with ~14gal. I'm using a 20gal kettle. It's fantastic and stress-free, since boil-overs are a non-issue. I also expect to do some 15gal batches in the future (ex: making...

    Oaking RIS

I'm currently soaking oak cubes for an Imperial Stout I'll be making in the next week or two. I'm using a 50:50 mix of French:American medium toast cubes; 2.5oz of each. The plan is to let them soak for 1 week in Bulleit bourbon, drain (and drink) that bourbon, then add fresh bourbon and soak...

    Carboy vs Bucket Fermenting??

Not even a proper 20oz pint? For shame. :mug: FWIW I use both glass and buckets. Buckets are easier to clean, but I prefer glass carboys. They're pretty and I like being able to see what's going on during the fermentation.

    Recommendations on propane burner?

Another +1 to blichmann. I'm in love with how quiet it is, and it's very fuel efficient. I'm already at 3 10gal batches (and that's with heating ALL water/wort on it) on a single propane tank, with gas to spare.

QOTD: SWMBO bought me a Festa Brew IPA kit (one of the big bags 'o wort). Made an honestly pretty damn good beer. I've been chasing the dragon ever since.

Phenolic / Plastic Taste in homebrews

Are you using standard PVC tubing or is it silicone? If you're using PVC when moving hot wort that could potentially be a culprit.
