    Keezer Project- Need some input

I plan on making a 3 tap keezer for my business partner for his birthday. It is going to be Pittsburgh Steelers themed. Only 3 tap as he doesn't home brew and I will need to keep him supplied ^.^ and then that will leave room for the Bud Light in there as well that he drinks --.-- Anyway...

    Help! Mash temperature way off.

I do not unfortunately, that will be on my list of things to add. I pitched at midnight before I went to bed, temps were 78 or so, woke up 6 hours later to fermentation kicking off fast. Hopefully I didnt mess up starting it higher but instructions indicated I could use a 80 degree starter ;P

    Help! Mash temperature way off.

Sorry for not being clear. Added water and grains, water was 174, grains were room temp. Most likely I was at 150-154 at this point, but my thermometer read 174+, so I started adding some cooler water. When it became obvious the thermometer was not reading accurately, I used a different...

    Help! Mash temperature way off.

I did everything by the books, but for some reason my thermometer was saying my mash was 174 degrees.... My thermometer on my HLT said 174 so I figured Id end up close to 152. Making a porter. So I assumed the analog was wrong, and started adding water to cool it down.... then I eventually...

How much space to brew? (not sure if right forum)

I am building an outbuilding soon for working on cars/painting, small gym, and some lawn equipment storage/tool storage. I am trying to plan on how much space I will need to allocate for brewing if I want to move myself to a dedicated space instead of futzing about in a small kitchen with a...

My First Brew, went AG first shot

Bottled 36 hours ago, storing at ~ 75 degrees under some towels, sitting on tile , expecting an explosion if i didnt mix the sugar in equally. The plastic bottles are already firm to hard. So I need to wait 3 weeks for the carbonation to absorb fully, but if I want to force carb some of...

    Man, I love Apfelwein

Can you bottle these in clear glass, or will that skunk it the same way it does beer?

My First Brew, went AG first shot

Someone in another thread said there could have been an infection... krausen came and went, top looked clean, no visibl growth anywhere, and it tasted fine to me flat and warm, but fine... I dont know if a .006 variance is so impossible that it has to mean an infection, because its a good chance...

Blonde Ale Centennial Blonde (Simple 4% All Grain, 5 & 10 Gall)

Tried mashing at 150-152 but when i stirred partway in it dropped to 145, ididnt have enough hot water ready, so it sat at 145 for 20ish minutes before icould get it back up to 148. I dont think it is infected, looks clean and I was a stickler on sanitation.

My First Brew, went AG first shot

Heh, gotcha.. i know its not important for this batch, but if im ever trying to fine tune to match a recipe I like, I just need to know what to adjust. Maybe Mashing temps + adding boiled water to adjust the OG? Hydrometer reads tap water at 1.0000, not sure if that means its right for...

Blonde Ale Centennial Blonde (Simple 4% All Grain, 5 & 10 Gall)

Well I think I blew the original recipe a bit Supposed to be 1.039 start 1.008 finish, 4%ABV Result: 1.044 start 1.002 or 1.001 finish 5.5% + ABV Is this because I extracted too much sugar? Or because mash temps dipped a few degrees in the middle? I followed the recipe in amounts...

Well I think I blew the original recipe a bit :( Supposed to be 1.039 start 1.008 finish, 4%ABV Result: 1.044 start 1.002 or 1.001 finish 5.5% + ABV Is this because I extracted too much sugar? I followed the recipe in amounts exactly. I pulled a sample today to taste and get my first FG...

Has anyone ever created a poll and consolidated recipes for each style?

I am new to brewing, have limited experience on different styles. Has anyone ever consolidated a list of "base" recipes, one for each main style, that is the best basic recipe for that style? I know there is a lot of preference in that, but as a new brewer I would like to brew one of each...

    Man, I love Apfelwein

Just started a 5 gallon batch with D47. Second ever brew (did my first beer last week). Mixed it per specs, but with table sugar, got 1.066 ~ OG. After searching aton more before i started this, found out I wasted $10 searching out not from concentrate lol :( Have enough for two batches, my...

Blonde Ale Centennial Blonde (Simple 4% All Grain, 5 & 10 Gall)

I brewed this as my first beer ever, went AG and it seemed to go well minus probably letting too much DMS in due to covering it for a bit of the time. It has been 4 days and the krausen is gone, barely bubbling. Should I start taking gravity readings, or transfer to secondary to help it...

My First Brew, went AG first shot

It has been 3.5 days and the airlock seems to have all but stopped bubbling. The krausen built up and fell leaving the surface of the beer mostly exposed. Should I start taking gravity readings at 4 days, or siphon it off to a secondary to help it clear up? Planning on bottle carbonating so...

My First Brew, went AG first shot

I understand that, because I had to cool it down, I pulled it then just to get an idea of what my gravity was before adding a second weaker batch sparge, curiosity more than anything :) Did I mess up pulling the OG after the boil? I figured whatever volume I ended up with after the boil, and...

My First Brew, went AG first shot

It has already started bubbling at 12 hours, I have another packet of notty, should I just over pitch to be safe?

My First Brew, went AG first shot

I wanted to brew an IPA or a stout, but I figured, basic, cheap recipe, that is light enough that my mistakes will really stand out, and if screw it up, Im only out a$20 lesson :) AG really wasnt bad... just a ton of cleaning.
