    Angry Brewing

I feel your pain when it comes to cash for brewing.

Picking up 10 gallons of mead this weekend (bottling question)

Thanks, all! It was a divorce that led to the meadery closing. Before I bought it, several people had chimed in about how damn good this place's mead was. I was hoping to pick up 5 gallons of the simple dry mead, and 5 gallons of the Winter Spiced, but there was only Winter Spiced available...

One batch in and the LHBS owner recognises me...

We've been in a few times, first to check it out as it's a new store, then to grab some equipment and sanitizer, and today we went again and I bought the ingredients for my first solo batch (and first non-kit batch!). Granted, we tend to be less forgettable because of my service dog, but it...

    Finding bottles

I mentioned on one of my boards that I was starting brewing. A woman in the area sent me a direct message letting me know she had a closet full of crown tops, and did I want them? Over a hundred bottles were delivered to my door, in cases & 6-pack boxes, with the promise of that many every...

Picking up 10 gallons of mead this weekend (bottling question)

Aloha, I'm picking up up 2 5-gallon containers of mead this weekend (a meadery went out of business a couple years ago, and they want to get rid of the leftover stock). It's too bad I can't handle the 55-gallon containers! :p I'm wondering if there should be any special consideration when...

    14 year old homebrew

I've tasted a really old beer, and it was amazing. There were 2 bottles between several of us, and we were all devastated that no one knew the recipe (the guy who actually brewed it moved away ages ago).

    First brew in bottles!

Thanks, all. I'd brain-fogged on the fact that the dextrose would ferment out. Other than that, it already tasted pretty good. Even my spouse, who doesn't really like beer (and especially stouts) said it was nice. I'm just glad that I'm picking up some mead this weekend! It's been...

    First brew in bottles!

Granted, I did it with a friend's help for the first stage, and it was an extract kit, but really I'm quite proud of myself. The kit I picked up was built by a LHBS, and the directions were very clear and entertaining, even though I ended up not needing them (my friend walked me through the...

Congrats! And show us the brew, I like looking at all the different types. Mmmm, beer p0rn.

    Oxy clean

For me, I would not be able to drink any beer you brew. You use latex. I'm allergic. And if you don't disclose that to people, you're risking a pretty bad reaction. All my ink was done with non-latex sterile gloves. My doctors use them as well. Yes, they're more expensive, but latex...

    Avoiding buying bottles!

Back. 120 bottles, put in the tub with hot water & Oxiclean (the Sam Adams labels came off really easily with just a washcloth, used the bottle brush on the inside, of course!), then rinsed in a bleach/water/vinegar solution, now drying. Since there's so many, I'll probably oven-sterilize them...

    Avoiding buying bottles!

Someone I know has lots of closet space, and always has the good intention to redeem her bottles. When I mentioned that I had started brewing, and needed to buy bottles, she wouldn't let me! She just brought over 120 bottles, all the same brand, rinsed and put back in their cases/6-packs. I...

    Hello from Northern New England

I was at A&G this weekend. Didn't spend much, but they were a real sweet couple running the place. I can see myself going in there every time I head down to Portsmouth. I do think they were a bit bemused by a couple where the woman was the one going "oooh, want", while the spouse was being...

    Aloha

Well, before I had moved away to Hawaii and moved back, I'd already helped with a few brews. The one that springs to mind involved jalapenos, and how we had to keep going outside to save our poor eyes as we ground the stuff. And I've no plans on resisting! To me it's just another extension of...

    Aloha

I've been searching around here since I started getting serious about actually starting brewing. I've been thinking about it on and off for 10 years, heh. But my friend said he was holding a brewing night if anyone wanted to learn, so I picked up a starter set and a porter kit, and off we...
