    Looking for a Good Thermometer

I just purchased a thermapen last week. It was on sale for $83 on amazon.com. It is well worth the price. I've done two brews with it already and there is no going back now. If it broke tomorrow I would buy another one.

    My Thermapen arrived!

yeah, I can see how it would be easy to drop. I was holding on to it for dear life. I was trying to figure out a way to attach a wrist strap to it. It does work great though. I'm more than pleased with it. Thanks for the heads up.

    My Thermapen arrived!

Received my new thermapen last night:ban:. Luckily I'm brewing tonight so it came just in time. I can't wait to use it. I've been taking the temp of everything i can think of in the meantime though. I don't think I can ever go back to a regular thermometer again. I cashed in my capital one...

    Drinking Wort

I don't, But I have a buddy who brews with me sometimes who loves it. He would drink a full glass if I would let him. On a side note I think there is a beverage in another country that is basically wort. I can't think of what it's called now though.

    Beer Tools vs Spreadsheet

The point of beer tools is to design your own recipes so that you can calculate the original gravity and ibu's of beer without flying blind. For all grain brewers you can use it to change existing recipes to your systems efficiency. If you are using just kits then all of that info is figured out...

    What happens if?

That depends on when you are talking about adding it. You add it at bottleing time so that the yeast eat it. The co2 they create can't escape the bottle and it carbonates your beer.

    Summer beers anyone?

+1 of the american wheat with kosch yeast. Then Use the yeast cake to ferment a Kolsch.

    Visiting Cincinnati

Not sure where you are going to be staying but if Jungle Jims is too far you could try the party source for good beers also. I think Ohio has some weird brewpub laws or something because there aren't many around. The Lackman is a bar in Over-the-Rhine that serves good beer, as a matter of fact I...

Does anyone else go through phases?

I go through phases. right now I'm on a German lager phase. previously it was a stout and porter phase, and before that an IPA and Pale Ale phase.

is it ok to move an actively fermenting carboy?

It's fine to move it. The oxygen has been purged out by co2, so there's no risk of oxidizing it.

German beer recipe with white radishes?

It was probably a Munich Helles or a Munich Dunkel. Ask your dad if it was a light or dark colored beer and you will probably have your answer. Edit: On second thought do you have any idea where he was stationed? There are parts of Germany that make and sell only specific types of beer. For...

This is an interesting idea. I don't see why it wouldn't work. I'm in the same boat with the cooler situation. I'm gonna try it in the near future.
