    Improving body... Even more

Hello everyone! I have a chocolate stout that I've brewed twice with some good results but yesterday it was evaluated by a BJCP judge from my city and the tip I was given was to increase the body to which I agreed, since I tasted it at the same time and it felt kinda watery for a stout. Now I...

Thanks for the info. Haha hope she agrees with that, and good luck with that! congrats.

    Ideas for big fermentation chamber

Excellent, I thought it wouldn't cost thaaat much but considering buying the equipment, installation and maintenance, I'd rather go with something more clever if not more elaborate. So how do you cool your small fermentation chamber? a vent with cool water or what's the frozen water bottles...

    Ideas for big fermentation chamber

Haha yeah, nothing to be surprised with about the prices. I'm still not sure about what route to go. I just found out about the glycol so I kinda have some new ideas. I have no old A/C, never used it at home because temp never goes that high and that's why I have no idea of the pricing. But...

    Ideas for big fermentation chamber

Actually yeah, they're in pesos so it's 30 bucks really haha, don't panic. Awesome idea, good luck with the cold room. I'm trying to figure out the samen but never really thought of using glycol, first time I hear about it. My biggest concern of course is the bill with the ac. I'm looking...

    Ideas for big fermentation chamber

No problem there, very thick floors and it's certain we can hold that much weight and even more. My concern right now is the cooling part really. Maybe someone here knows an average of kWH on the newer mini splits? I'm not ditching the AC unit idea just yet. Thanks for your response!

    The Weber Fermentation Chamber

Excellent project! kind of what I'm trying to pull of but I got a question though. Does your AC unit bring your electric bill too high? I was thinking of setting one too in my small fermentation room but I was making calculations and got about 90 bucks just by the small minisplit :( I wanna...

    Ideas for big fermentation chamber

Hello everyone! Let me introduce my dilemma recently. For the past couple of months I've been brewing in the kitchen and fermenting on plastic buckets and now glass carboys all in swamp coolers with ice and a pump that runs cold water throughout the day. Now I've built a small brewroom (7x3.5...

Recurrent contamination, can't get rid of it :(

I agree, that's a bit unlikely although they do come from the same order. I buy supplies for 2 months so all the packages came at the same time. But also it's very unlikely they're all contaminated. I'm betting there's something in the buckets and/or spigots.

Only the scissors, I haven't rinsed the package :O

Recurrent contamination, can't get rid of it :(

I might try that too, pitching at a lower temperature. The thing is where I live (Mexico city) liquid yeast is pretty much inexistent and I wouldn't really trust it considering how far away it would come from. Storage and viability are a big concern for me, and the price if I can get them is...

Recurrent contamination, can't get rid of it :(

That's a pretty solid clean I think. No wonder why you never have contaminations. Luckily I've been using plastic bottles so no worries with stainless steel. I'll give it a shot this weekend just as directed and see what happens. Thank you so much for your advice! so kind of you.

Recurrent contamination, can't get rid of it :(

Good point too. I was going this route on my next step to improving my procedure, I guess I'll consider this now. What's your suggestion? ph straps or a digital device?

Recurrent contamination, can't get rid of it :(

Actually the star san I'm using from yesterday's batch on is brand new. The iodophor I had was like 2 months old.

Recurrent contamination, can't get rid of it :(

Will be switching places when I mill now to discard one more reason. I just bought some bleach, I'll try with it and just brew a small batch. I don't wanna dump more precious beer! Any suggestions with the bleach bomb? leave everything submerged for a certain time and then rinse the hell out...

Recurrent contamination, can't get rid of it :(

Ok, next step I'm milling somewhere else to prevent anything from getting in. Yeast is a simple dry package so not much handling there, just cut the pack open and pitch them straight to the bucket. I just switched to star san, being my first use just yesterday. I had been going with iodophor...

Recurrent contamination, can't get rid of it :(

Exactly what I was thinking! that's why I bought a new bucket which was intended to expand my equipment but I used it today. If it comes ok, I think I might go with different equipment. It's narrowed down to the fermentors I believe, 'cause after boiling and chilling, there are no other agents...

Recurrent contamination, can't get rid of it :(

Well that raised some flags. I actually mill my grain in the kitchen, which is where I brew and then transfer wort to the bucket 'cause that's where I chill too. I store the grain pretty far from there though, but I crush it in the same room, one day before. I don't know if that helps but I'll...

Recurrent contamination, can't get rid of it :(

Well, maybe that could be a reason but I don't rinse after sanitizing my buckets or anything. Actually the off smell was only present after some batches on the buckets, not immediately after washing them. I washed a brand new one with tap water and it didn't have that off smell which to me...

Recurrent contamination, can't get rid of it :(

Oook. Let's start. One day before brewday, I weigh and mill the malt and store it in a bag (I brew in a bag). I wash all the equipment with tap water and a soft sponge. This includes the buckets, spigots, airlocks, hoses, mash tun, brew kettle, everything I use next day. Morning, if I have a...
