    first AG batch sanity check

I stir the mash every 15 minutes, didn't see you mention that. I do two batch sparges. That increases my efficiency from about 67 to 80. I boil off more than what you are estimating. I want 5.5 in the fermenter. I lose wort in the kettle and beer in the carboy to trub. So I all my recipes are 6...

Dry Hop or No Dry Hop? Pumpkin Ale

I would not dry hop personally. I would think a dry hop would mask your spice aroma. I would try this one as is and if its not perfect then make the adjustment next time. Just giving my two cents.

    BMC brews

Ironically, the dissatisfaction with the lack of consumer choice has led to such an awesome hobby/obsession for me. If I could buy interesting beers and try new beers easily and for a reasonable price, I probably wouldn't have jumped into homebrewing. In that respect, I'm okay with BMC. I will...

Need advice on hops for ipa

I would do 1 oz warrior at 60. 1 oz simcoe at 15 Then more simcoe or centennial at 5 and flame out. Dry hops are ok. I would not waste Amarillo at anything before 5. I would increase the total amount of hops for an IPA. Let some of the bitterness come from the later additions. You will get...

    Fermenting temperature question

+1 Nottingham is known to produce undesired rests over 70. Other ale yeasts are more tolerating to higher temps. But ideally, you should look into controlling your fermentation temps. Search swamp cooler. Or use a fridge or freezer with a temp controller. If you need more info on this, search...

Need advice on hops for ipa

Cool bud. Good selection of hops to choose from. But what yeast? What flavor are you looking for? Mouthfeel? Dry and bitter? Soft and smooth with tons of flavor and aroma? Fruity or earthy or what? You provide the answer to that and we will hook you up. Not all IPAs taste the same. That will...

    First Batch in the Bottle

If your FG was around 1.030, your fermentation was not complete. Adding water to top off your volume is normal and probably not your concern here. The ABV you sense is probably phenol alcohol from high fermentation temps. That flavor is not indicative of ABV. I have only been brewing about 8...

Requesting a Double IPA recipe review

They don't sell weyermann. This is what I used. http://www.thegrape.net/browse.cfm/cara-45-dingemans/4,8419.html I have brewed this two other times since the first attempt. The second attempt I increased the honey malt to .75 and dropped the cara45 to .5. I thought it was better the first way...

    IPA Recipe

I wouldn't say you are wrong. The OP indicated a first wort hop addition, where the bittering addition will be added to the boil kettle when the wort is added to the kettle before the boil. I have never tried this, but some people say it is a smoother bittering addition than a 60 minute...

    Simple kegging question

Chill it. The beer should absorb the CO2. I think it's just doing that because its warm. Beer doesn't absorb efficiently when it's that warm. I force carb at 30 psi for at least a day, but I do it at about 38 degrees.

So, have you ever urinated in the shower?

Laugh if you will. I might be the only one. I either have a medical problem or a drinking problem, or maybe aging. How about...do you occasionally have pee trickle down your leg after you finish peeing in a toilet/urinal, tucking it back in, and after shaking more than sufficiently?

    Sessionable pale ale or IPA

My first batch was a sierra nevada pale ale clone from midwestsupplies.com. I was very happy with it. My OG came out lower than the real deal, but it was a great session beer. Maybe check out biermunchers blonde ale and double the hops. I am sure someone has converted the AG recipe to...

Can't get my kegs to serve at the same pressure!?

I'm not saying that everyone that says you need longer lines is wrong, but I never see anyone say otherwise. I have 5 foot lines and serve at 10-12 psi and I don't get a lot of foam. Just thought I'd let you know that apparently the line length is not always an issue with everyone.

So, have you ever urinated in the shower?

I also pee in the drain on my garage floor. Have peed in the utility sink as well (on my tippy toes though).

Requesting a Double IPA recipe review

Kegged, carbed and cold. Smells great, tastes great. Not a perfect clone but I am in the ballpark as I hoped. Thanks for your help HBT. A couple of others have messaged me about this. I will post the recipe I actually used and some more detailed thoughts when I can get MY iPad away from my 5...

Trying to create a recipe from scratch, help?

I think it looks good to me. Since there were no clones recipes, we just have to guess a reasonable grain bill and hop schedule. I bet we'll be in the ballpark and be happy with our results.
