    HowZit everybody !

Yes, this is their third year. It will be my first time harvesting. I plan to dry them and freeze most of them.

This is an earlier picture of my hops. They're starting to brown at the edges.

    HowZit everybody !

Just put in a call to my son to see if he wants to help, but I'm getting ready to harvest at least part of my hops and then brew some nut brown ale! I have a 5-gallon batch of sack mead fermenting now (Day 5). This will be the first time I've had more than one batch fermenting at once.

    First mead

Thanks for your comments ShadesManna and bernardsmith. I've always liked Charlie Pappazian's advice, so I relaxed and had a homebrew, but I always like to hear the voice of experience, too, so thanks again Just to answer your question, I diluted 14 pounds of honey in 5 gallons of water, bringing...

What I did for beer today

Aerated my first-ever batch of mead this morning. Earlier this evening, I took a hydrometer reading (1.041). I will aerate again before bed. This is its third full day in the fermenter. I welcomed some new members to HBT after posting about my first experience with mead. I also read several HBT...

Hello All, Brewers from New Jersey!

Welcome! You will be hoppy here! I, too, am growing hops. I don't spray them with anything. Does that make them organic? It's a serious question. I hear "organic" a lot, but have only the faintest notion of what it entails.

    Hi everyone!

Hi from Minnesota! Good luck with the pears. Welcome back into homebrewing. I'm doing my first batch of mead right now. It's bubbling away! I've grown to love that sound ... the sound of bubbles in the fermentation lock!

    First mead

I recently joined the St. Paul (MN) Homebrewers and learned that Steve Piatz is a member. The club has done very well, putting it mildly, in mead competitions. I have long been toying with the idea of making mead, so I bought a copy of his book and dove in. I've been brewing ale for some time...

    Hops ablaze?

Just wondering if anyone knows how the western wildfires are affecting this year's hops harvesting. If you live out west, you are in my thoughts. I hope you are safe and not too horribly affected.

Can anyone identify the variety? I "borrowed" a snippet a few years ago.

Happy to say mine are growing and expanding with each passing year. I will need to come up with something better for them to climb on. I started with one string of twine! Good luck with all of yours.

At your prompting I went a little farther and have it narrowed down to Cascade or Centennial. The leaves make me think mine are Centennial. Thanks again for your response!
