    Bourbon Barrel Old Ale

In my readings of late out of The Brew-Masters Bible I think it would be classified under Old Ale due to the long secondary fermentation or aging. A real porters are just a combination of "the more costly old ale and the more affordable mild ale." The starter that I made was 1/2 cup of Light...

Issues with Midwest Supplies Extract kits?

Sorry my computer has been down for a while. My belgian wit actually turned out very well once it was chilled down in my portable cooler that is basically the first beer I have had that was cold to drink. My wort chiller I put in a seperate pot with water and bring up to a boil then boil for...

    Bourbon Barrel Old Ale

Just started this last night Sept 18th. This is the first batch I made a yeast starter. I used white labs English Ale yeast. Finished brewing and in the fermenter around 9:00 P.M. Woke up this morning with two inches of krausen. So all good so far.

Issues with Midwest Supplies Extract kits?

Stretching it out? I start with 6.5 because of the boil and water loss in the grain at the end I end with 5 gallons.

Issues with Midwest Supplies Extract kits?

I use a carboy brush and I don't scrub hard I guess it could get scratched it is just a plastic bucket. I have been using a 6.5 gallon bucket for primary then better bottle for secondary. I just don't want the mess or pain of trying to throw around more weight with the glass carboy plus they...

Issues with Midwest Supplies Extract kits?

I have not tried that but do you really think that would be the issue when it has been this way since I got the bucket no more than six batches ago? And it was that way from the beginng?

Issues with Midwest Supplies Extract kits?

I have tried a few brewers best beer kits and they turned out the same. In my belgian wit I changed from my tap water to actual distilled water and I think it helped with the tart/bitter flavor a little but I don't know how to explain it maybe its the corriander in this kit? But like I said...

Issues with Midwest Supplies Extract kits?

the coriander came ground in the midwest kit but i used a grain bag with the coriander and the orange peel to contain it so it did not float around in the wort. And the belgain yeast is not the only yeast I have used I don't remember some of the other ones but still get the same strange taste...

Issues with Midwest Supplies Extract kits?

Ok so what about when I use dry yeast, still been having the same issues. Its not just because I am not making a yeast starter. White labs tube yeasts don't say to make a starter on the tube they say to get to bring wort to a temperature then pitch. There are tons of brewers who do not make...

Issues with Midwest Supplies Extract kits?

Starters IMO are a waste of time I have never had a problem with fermentation starting, finishing, or even having problems with stuck fermentation so I don't waste my time and risk getting an infection due to the yeast being in a bottle. Just right out of the package is the way I go. My...

    Carbonation Bubble size in Beer

I am just curious if anyone has used a carbonation stone compared to just normal keg carbonation? I am just trying for the first time a .5 micron carbonation stone in some new millenium sparkling wine and the bubbles seem perfect for like a champagne because they are really small. I that...
