    Oxyclean/alternatives question

Hi! I've got another newbie question here and hopefully someone will help. I've been reading a lot about cleaning and oxyclean seems to be very popular. I can't find it in the UK, however, I can find sodium percarbonate and sodium carbonate. Suppose I mix them 50-50, then how much of the...

    Scratched bucket for bottling?

Thanks! The scratches are very light, but having read a lot about scratched plastic ruining batches I'm a bit worried there =) I intend to rinse the bottles in sanitiser in this bucket before using it as bottling bucket, so it should be pretty clean by the time beer gets into it. When I...

    Scratched bucket for bottling?

Hi! I have recently been advised to use a bottling bucket and I have a good bucket that will do the trick, however, it's quite old and it's been cleaned with a coarse dishwashing sponge a few times which resulted in the bucket being slightly scratched. Would a cleaner and a sanitizer rinse be...

    Cleaners/Sanitisers (UK)

Having done more search, I found a UK distributor of StarSan, so the sanitiser problem is solved. For Cleaning I decided to use a 50-50 mix of sodium percarbonate and sodium carbonate. Can someone please tell me how much water should I dilute the mixture with? Thanks!

    Cleaners/Sanitisers (UK)

Hi! A few beginners questions about cleaning and sanitising. I've done some reading on this forum and noticed that there are many different cleaners & sanitisers but most of them (bar bleach) do not seem to be available in the UK. 1) Cleaners: Everyone seems to be very happy with...

    Fermentation - newbie questions

Thanks! 2l bottles with salt water should do bring the air temp down a few degrees. I'll try to put the fermenter in water but I'll need to find a VERY big bucket. I'll take 2 readings for my second batch: one of the wort (sensor taped to the bucket with some foam insulation) and one for...

    Fermentation - newbie questions

Thanks! I am using kit yeast. I'll see how it turns out - only one way to find out! The thermometer was lying on the bucket's lid, so was hopefully showing temp somewhere between wort and air. Now when the active fermentation is over, the temp does not rise over 20.5. I guess I might have...

    Fermentation - newbie questions

Thanks! What about my temp control plans? Does it sound ok or is it crazy talk? I havent decided yet whether to monitor air temp or wort temp.

    Fermentation - newbie questions

Thank you for the replies! Is the bottling bucket just for mixing in the priming sugar? I was going to bottle straight from primary... I guess to avoid using an extra bucket I can get the same results by boiling 200ml with sugar and then using a syringe or turkey baster to add the liquid...

    Fermentation - newbie questions

Hi! I am brewing my first batch from kit and I'm looking for some advice and reassurance that I'm doing the right thing ;) There seems to be a lot of conflicting advice, so any help would be greatly appreciated! For my first batch I chose Munton's Nut Brown Ale kit with 1kg Munton's beer...
