Session beer + Conan Yeast + Hop Steep only

It is really really good. Drinking on day 7 with plenty of yeast suspended. It started to clear out so I rolled the keg to regain some of that awesome Conan fruitiness. I finished at 1.012 so maybe next time ill mash a bit higher Sent from my iPod touch using Home Brew

    Homebrewing in Rwanda

Whilst not ideal, if you can't find malted barley it's possible to malt your own. I did that in S Korea when malted was cost prohibited. Now it's the wild-wild west of homebrewing. You left just when it's starting to get good!

Session beer + Conan Yeast + Hop Steep only

My Conan is a beast so I'm not concerned about underattenuation. I ended up doing 7oz steeped at 200f for 30 minutes. Time will tell.

Session beer + Conan Yeast + Hop Steep only

Good solid info, TGMartin I should have also mentioned I'm shooting for a 1.045 SG

Session beer + Conan Yeast + Hop Steep only

I've become quite fond of Conan. I like drinking the unhopped yeast starters I make from it. So much pineapple! Recently I've become a fan of the West Coast Bitter recipe floating around on the internet. I've been doing 30-20-10 hop schedules but want to go to the extreme with a Hopsteep...

    Spent Grain Nutrients?

Chickens love them. Gave them a 25lb spent grain bill. I thought it would take 18 chickens severals days. The next day ... scorched earth. Nothing remaining.

    Monster Mill or Captain Crush

I'm a past, unsatisfied barley crusher user that moved onto a monster mill 3 roller model. I also own the two roller model at my other brew house. Over the past three years me and five other brewers regularly use the 3 roller model powered by a corded drill. Sometimes you'll need to spin the...

    kegging warm

It'll take a day to chill it. Also, moving the keg will disturb anything on the bottom so you're more apt to get some bit and pieces in your first few pulls.

Help me pick a hop for a session saison

Thanks gents. I'm a fan of the 30-20-10 w/ session beers so I'm going to head down the road w/ Haullertau.

Help me pick a hop for a session saison

It looks like I'm going with the Haullertau. Now 60-10 or 30-20-10? Thoughts?

Help me pick a hop for a session saison

At my saison attempt, I went from 1.052 to 1.003. Starting at 75f and ramping to 90f with my aquarium heater/water bath setup over the course of 10 days. So many stories about 3724 needing extra special care but it was nothing but good to me. *knock on wood*

Help me pick a hop for a session saison

I might bump it up to low 20s for the IBU to factor in the unknown age on the Hallertau. I'm an experienced brewer but saisons are kind of off my radar. Complicating the matter is the massive range that the category covers. There was a BYO writeup on saisons but the lowest recipe they...

Help me pick a hop for a session saison

True. But on my previous attempt, my saison finished 1.003. I feel like the bitterness is a little stronger than other beers with higher FG.

    Anyone have two brewing rigs?

I do. One in Korea and one at home in the US. In Korea, I use a 3kw heat stick. In the US, I 'cook' on a rocket stove.

Help me pick a hop for a session saison

I'm starting my sparge and haven't pinned down a hop for a 1.032 saison w/ 3724. My choices are exactly Centennial or Haulertau Mittelfrueh. The Mittelfrueh were given to me sealed but I don't know how old they are. I opened them and, well, they are green and smell earthy and spicy. If I...
