    Screwed up hop addition

Hell it clocked in at 17.5 IBUs. It’s not like hops are the flavor in this one.

    Screwed up hop addition

Unfortunately I did add yeast to it. You’re more than welcome to try some next time you’re in Jackson, MS. This is more of a curious question, and not a “Is my beer ruined” one.

    Screwed up hop addition

Been brewing for a few years, but I’m posting this one here. I was supposed to add 1/2 oz of willamette and crystal at the start of a 90 minute boil. I only added the willamette, and realized it at the 30 minute mark. I added the crystal, and split the difference by extending the boil an extra...

    Not homebrew but...

This is the most positive response I have ever seen for a bmc owned brewery. Usually you see some back lash. I love their stuff. Hell half my bottles came from goose island.

    Dog treats.

Will it be alright to use spent grain for dog treats if I used about a half pound of rice hulls in the mash?

    New burner and kettle...now what?

If you didn’t get the stainless steel option on the burner do a burn off before you put your brand new pot on it. The paint is going to burn off the frame. Definitely rinse the pot with some type of cleaner.

    Not homebrew but...

Their beer is good, but get ready for some backlash here. Terrapin is BMC owned, and not a “craft brewery”.

Best way to start creating own receipes

I would pick up different styles of craft beers and find one I liked enough that I knew I could drink a ton of it. Then I started searching for a clone recipe online and brew it. Normally people cloning will try to get it as close to the commercial example as possible, but I use it simply as a...

    Soon to bottle

I’m unsure what type of tabs you have, but the carb tabs I have used in the past have over carbed the beer. Not to the point of bottle bombs, but definitely more sugar than most styles call for. Hang on the plastic bottles that came with your kit. They are kinda cheesy to serve out of, but...

This is the part where you say welcome to the board dummy...

Sacrilegious statement. Drink responsibly, and take good notes.

    Using RO/DI water

$6/jug. I’m assuming that’s for 5 gallons right? I will eat bandaids, and chase it with mad dog before I spend $6 on a gallon of water.

Help! Brewing in South Arkansas...New to this region!

Honestly if you can snag a cheap fridge or freezer all options are on the table. I’m even further south and brew pretty much whatever I’m feeling like year round. Just be ready to fight mosquitoes. They will steal your kettle when you’re not paying attention. Also, I’m not sure what you are...

anyone got a recipe for a real working man's beer

Jack Daniels, or True Beer. Whichever is easiest to get your hands on.

You can hate InBev, but what they do is nothing short of awe-inspiring.

The rest of the episode is a solid watch as well. Who knew Budweiser was naturally carbonated?

    What's Your Fermentation Capacity?

I consider active fermentation done when I get three hydrometer readings with no change. Edited for clarity.
  16. swampbrewcrew

    What's Your Fermentation Capacity?

I only control the temps during active fermentation so 15 gallons there. As far as bulk conditioning in carboys it’s 60 gallons. That’s only restricted by the number of carboys and space SWMBO will allow for carboys. In my experience with ales, once active fermentation is over I can pull it...

So.... what is "Ale" by any other standards??

Honestly this sounds like a comment from a “pro” brewer who just lost his ass when John Doe down the road decided to open his own brew house.
  18. swampbrewcrew

So.... what is "Ale" by any other standards??

I will refrain from revealing my true feelings and simply say this. Homebrewers would never be able to scale up to a brewery if this was true. It’s generally agreed that the difficult part of being successful as a brewery is marketing. If your beer is good enough to invest a few 100 grand...

    Please Help! Opinions Needed!

Drink a few of your favorite craft brews before you crack this one. I would imagine it’s going to be a little rough tasting, but it’s beer!

    We lost a good one.

Never give up hope. I’m here to talk to any one. We have all experienced our own hell. If you need to talk let me know. I may not respond immediately, but I will respond. You’re not alone.
