Can you "dim" an electric element with a Variac?

i still say try a stove control. i've got one that i pulled off a stove to try this with, it's rated for 2350 watts at 240v. haven't gotten around to hooking it up yet, but i don't see why it wouldn't work

    Hole Saw or step drill

step bits generally give a much cleaner hole. drilled several holes in stainless pots/kegs with mine and still works great

Can you "dim" an electric element with a Variac?

i would imagine you could try the controls from a stove if you can find them at a high enough wattage

Can anyone tell me what kind of metal this is made of?

i think they're usually made from zinc or aluminium

    March 809 center inlet pump

i've got one of these, works great after i got used to priming it. you might need a 3/4 - 1/2 reducing coupling depending on your setup

Electrian dad says GCFI is pointless?

pretty much any work boots worth anything will prevent you from being grounded in dry conditions. wouldn't be able to work on even 110 circuits hot if they didn't

Electrian dad says GCFI is pointless?

yeah i agree it's insane. given the choice between a new ejector pump or an extension cord/non gfci recep, i think most people will end up picking the latter

Electrian dad says GCFI is pointless?

gfci's are only meant to protect people, not equipment. you won't harm the pump by putting it on a non-gfci

Electrian dad says GCFI is pointless?

i think in the 2011 nec all standard receps in a kitchen have to be gfci protected

No Stab Lok 50/60A, 2 pole breakers?

any reason you can't just use a regular breaker to feed a hot tub gfci panel?

    Little electric help..

you'd be fine using a 12/3 extension cord. you could probably build the same thing as that box for a little cheaper too. just make sure the receptacle you're plugging in to is on a 20 amp circuit

    CPVC Manifold Slits or Holes

i drilled 3/32 holes and put them facing down. never had a problem with stuck sparges

    Electrical Primer for Brewers

if it's a dedicated stove circuit, you can probably get away with it. but on a circuit with other receps, don't use the bare ground. should a neutral go bad somewhere else in the circuit, there's a potential to get rapped neutral to ground if there's a load on the circuit and you complete it

    homemade false bottom

i would try to smooth it out with a flap disc followed by some bkf and a green or white scotchbrite pad

    1/2" ss solenoids, cheap source?

this place has 3 piece ball valves with an actuator mounted to them. i don't think it says what voltage they run at though http://climaxhomebrew.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=1_10&products_id=6&zenid=ct6su9ckc4raircpap67h8l9h2

    My 55 year old Frigidaire

cause nowadays everything that's made is crap and back then it was made to be repaired and last

    CO2 Dip tube

can't you use that to fill smaller tanks if you wanted to go that route?

Does this GFCI look like it will work?

that one is a bolt on, you probably don't have that in your home

Does this GFCI look like it will work?

or this would work, if it matches your panel. even if your panel is a square d, you have to be careful to get the either homeline or qo (whichever matches your panel). i can't really tell from the picture what that one is though
