    TAP draft system

I have a Miller Lite home draft keg that I plan on filling with some beer. I have one question though, do I add the beer with the priming sugar or with out? I twisted off the top and drank/poured out the crappy beer so the co2 canister is not punctured.

A Year from Beer....Could you do it?

Yes and I did it, volunteeringly. I went 419 days without alcohol. The first few weeks were the hardest. And that was just because you have to find something different to drink. I drank alot of juice. I discovered that 1) drunk people are annoying and 2) people don't carry alot of non-alcoholic...

Home brewing store in San Antonio?

I frequent Home Brew Party at Nacogdoches and Judson. A pretty decent store for your homebrewing needs. It's on the northside of town, close to 1604 and I-35N.

    Pineapple as primary in Wit

Maui Brewing Co. in Maui, Hawaii uses Maui Gold pineapple juice in their Mana Wheat beer. Its very light and subtle on the back end taste. I think they put the juice in at canning. They can, don't bottle. Maybe you can shoot them an email about their process. Mauibrewingco.com

Ever have a credit card number stolen???

I ordered from AHS on 1/27. The only place I've bought anything online since before Christmas. I had an unauthorized transaction go through on 2/07 post on 2/08 of $186 from a 'Damm In' via PayPal. I just got off the phone with my bank, filing a claim. Although I do thank the HBT community for...

Texas Petition to allow pubs to sell their beer to distributors.

The funny thing is that was started by Freetail Brewing Co. which is a pretty good brewpub about 3 miles down the street from me! And yes i signed it.

    Road Trip!

Welcome to Texas Yooper! I think you brought that UP weather with ya! If you're down in Rockport, try and make it up to San Antonio sometime. It's only about a 2 hour drive. There's some decent brewpubs here; Blue Star Brewery and Freetail Brewery and 2 miles from me. Enjoy your stay in the...

    bad customer service

Wall of text FTW! I'm sure the majority of us have had bad customer service at one point. And there is one guy at my LHBS that i avoid because he is lazy and acts superior. If you feel the staff at your LHBS is incompetent, ask your questions here and order online! My LHBS still preaches...

    Snake Bites banned in England

I live in Texas and I've never heard of a 6 pack or a 12 pack referred to as a case. A case is 24 beers. Period. Now there are some towns where you can get a cube of beer, 30 cans. And any half decent bar from Houston to Dallas to Austin/San Antonio, all the way down to Corpus Christi should...

    Favorite Brewing Music

Gogol Bordello 'Alcohol' is a great warm up pre-brew song. I usually put on Pandora Radio and then get to mashing.

Imperial Stout Dark Night of the Soul Russian Imperial Stout

Well I'm 48 hours in and I'm wondering when I should worry about a blow-off. I have 5 gallons split between two 6.5 gallon fermenting buckets. I can't see through them and don't want to open up the lids. Any idea when I'm past the danger zone for a blow off? Three days, five days? I'm going to...

Imperial Stout Dark Night of the Soul Russian Imperial Stout

Just finished cleaning up from brewing the 5 gallon extract verison. OG 1.124. Divided it between two 6.5 gallon fermenters. Crossing fingers for no blow off!

    Tim's Irish Stout

So I bottled this one up today after 2 weeks in the primary. My FG came in at 1.016 and an OG of 1.046. I had a steady fermenting temp of 70 degrees. I wonder what happened. It tastes pretty good now but 3.96 ABV? Any thoughts, ideas?

The HARDEST part of home brewing.....

I agree with the OP. My family likes the beer I make and then get upset when It runs out, confused why I don't have more, but balk at giving me money to buy more kits to brew more. Because you know, homemade = free.

best swamp cooler in humid place

I do pretty much the same thing! In the winter I place an aquarium heater in the tub to keep the temperature constant. In the summer I plan on placing frozen water bottles in the tub. Instead of the stick on fermometer, I use an aquarium thermometer in the tub. It floats and it's easy to take...

    Cooling Your Wort Questions

I acquired a 3 gallon jug from my LHBS that was used for extract. I sanitize the heck out of it, pour my wort in, cover the top securely with aluminum foil and place it in the largest cold water bath EVAR! My pool! The cool thing is with a partial boil the jug floats balanced in the pool and is...

    Tim's Irish Stout

Well, I brewed this one up today. Gettin' better at my process. Only took me 4 hours from start to finish. And learned a few things along the way. I don't think I'll use whole hops again. To much material to deal with post boil. My gravity came in at 1.046. So not too far off from yours. Well...

    Tim's Irish Stout

Thanks for the reply Tim. The AA of the whole leaf hops are 5.0 which was the same as the pellet variety. Maybe I'll brew this up with pellet hops some time and do a taste test and see if there's a difference. Its good to know the DME to LME conversion was correct. Its kind of hit of miss at my...

    Bottling Conundrum

Well, I don't like the answers I'm getting but it is sound advice. I will be waiting. I don't want to risk bottle bombs since they cost more than the ingredients! Maybe I can get it bottled on Thursday night, that will be 12 days. I'm going out of town for Christmas so next Saturday is out of...

    Bottling Conundrum

I agree with the quick turn around time, 7 days. I normally do 2 to three weeks. I had planned on this being my session beer recipe. Something to brew quick between the other beer styles I care more about, which get a minimum 2 weeks in the primary and then 3 weeks to 8 months in the bottle. I'd...
