    Dual immersion wort chillers

    I started using a prechiller this summer, and it's definitely worth the time and money. Even with 80*+ water temps, I can cool ten gallons to pitching temps in about 30 minutes (compared to an hour earlier in the Spring).

    Wort Chiller Modification

    I added 25' to my existing 25' immersion chiller. I used a SharkBite coupler, available at Home Depot (The SharkBite Connection System) to connect the copper ends. It hasn't leaked, but I bent the tubing so the coupler was outside the kettle, just to be safe.

    Memorial Day Brewing.

    10 gallons of a Rye Wheat with Safale 05 for me today. Unfortunately, I got careless and got a nice burn on my arm (spray from the immersion chiller shortly after I placed it into the boil), but still a good brew day.

    You could try some oven cleaner to get the soot off. In the future, rub the bottom of the pot with a cheap bar of soap. After your brewday is done, the soot should then wash off easily.
