    Wort Chillers

Wort chillers are SOOOO nice. Used a homemade copper one on the IPA I just did, and it took it from KO to 80 in about 8 minutes flat.

    American Pale Ale attempt...

Here's my take: 1. The special roast is unnecessary. It'll be overly powerful, even in such a small amount for this beer, and isn't really something I'd personally put into an APA. Maybe switch the Victory and Roast for a tiny bit of Crystal or something along those lines. 2. Not enough late...

    Today's Brew- Untitled IPA

SG sample: Looks pretty good, even if it is cloudy as of right now. And on that note, I forgot the Irish moss. Oh well.

    Today's Brew- Untitled IPA

Getting ready: Bad cutting job is bad: Grain, anyone? Mash draining: Looking good so far: Boil started: Hey, those look like hops: Me adding the Centennial @ 60 minutes: The chiller, post use (Side note, if you don't use a chiller, you need to): Into...

    Today's Brew- Untitled IPA

Pitched yeast at 9 PM last night at 67 degrees. Should have dropped some overnight. Pics coming in a little bit.

    Today's Brew- Untitled IPA

Okay, changed a little before brewing, SG is 1.053, pictures to come later once I make it home. 60 and 20 minute additions are in, 5 minute is going in about 5 minutes from now. Smells awesome, looks fantastic compared to the last beer we did, and tasted pretty good, for being unhopped, it...

    Today's Brew- Untitled IPA

Oh trust me, I will. I'm heading to Bobert's now. I've been ready to get this beer brewed for a while. It took me ages to find the Amarillo.

    Today's Brew- Untitled IPA

So, came up with this last minute. Hoping it comes out half as good as it looks on paper. 5.5 gallon batch. Keggle on turkey fryer burner + Igloo cooler + Copper coil wort chiller. 7lb Marris Otter 4lb Pale 2 Row 1.5lb Vienna 1lb Flaked Wheat .5lb Crystal 20 1oz 8.1AA%...

Anyone have Columbus Brewing IPA clone?

The brewmaster is Eric Bean. From what I could get out of Tony Corder (also a brewer at Columbus) it is a fairly simple grain bill, and has a boatload of Simcoe in it. He wouldn't give me the full hop bill, but he did tell me that they use a bunch of the hops as late additions, and that the...

Basic APA and some late additions?

Toast part of the base malt bill. Problem solved.

This Is Not A Beer, It's An IPA

I'm sure I could get Tony to get me close. I know he wouldn't give me the hop bill, but he told me that A LOT of it was Simcoe. Got my hops in, the Amarillo came in today, the others 2 days ago. Pictures to come once it's brewed and such.

    Angry Wolf IIPA Critique

Looks pretty solid. Guess I didn't see the update :P The Crystal is still kind of high, but this is homebrewing, after all. Your recipe, do what you like.

    Building The SamuraIPA

Roasted Barley can give you flavor though, bitter, roast, and coffee like. Those don't usually go well with an IPA.

This Is Not A Beer, It's An IPA

I think you might be the odd one out. Columbus IPA uses a LOT of Simcoe in it, and I find all kinds of flavors in it, pineapple, pine, citrus, tropical fruit, resin, etc. I can't wait for the hops to get here so I can brew already. I'm getting impatient :P

    Building The SamuraIPA

Melanoiden malt adds a nice deep red to beers, for future reference.

    Angry Wolf IIPA Critique

Okay, here's my biggest qualms with your recipe: Why use Citra for a bittering addition? I know it's higher alpha and would add a good bit of IBU to the beer, but it's FAR too good as an aroma and flavor hop to waste it for bittering. Seriously, I'd sub them out for Columbus or another high...

    Suggestions with a hoppy APA.

You want a good combo for an IPA? Cascade+Willamette. Very solid combo. Add a bittering addition of something else (small charge of Columbus would work well) and use the Cascade/Willamette at 15/5/dry hop and there ya go.

    outta this GALAXY ipa

Most people have described Galaxy as a passionfruit/tropical hop. I think bo above me is right, Citra+Galaxy would be ridiculously good.

This Is Not A Beer, It's An IPA

Btw, this beer's name is a play off of a song title from Psychostick (This Is Not A Song, It Is A Sandwich). Seeing them tonight in Columbus.

This Is Not A Beer, It's An IPA

I'm trying to keep it in the BJCP guidelines, between 40 and 70 IBU, and as it sits, it's 56.1 IBU. Adding the other .5 oz of Centennial to 60 minutes gives me over 80. FWIW, I'm trying to keep this one in the guidelines for entry into a couple local homebrew events. Everything is within the...
