    Secondary carboy space/how long is safe?

    i asked the same thing and it turns out tha when you rack you beer over it kinda wakes some of the yeast up and makes a blanket of c02 wich will protect your beer,wont hurt anything as long as its not in there over a month or so

    tasted first beer!?

    midwest supplies (autamn amber ale) brewed on 12-7-10 racked to secondary on 12-16-10 bottled on 12-20-10 and tried one today 12-26-10..plenty of carbanation good taste but had a small backround off flavor,maybe one more week?

    cutting hole in better bottle

    Can i cut a hole in a 5 gallon better bottle for a spigot, so it would be easier to check gravity and fill bottles with? Also is it a 1 inch hole :mug:

    bottled my first brew! (questions)

    I brewed a autumn amber ale(midwest supplies) on 12-6-10 and bottled today,first gavity was ...1.043 and ending was 1.010, is that ok for that type of beer? also can i try it in a week...thanks alot :mug:

    First of all i want to thank everyone for the responces,and i did rack it to secondary and it looks like yeast and hops mixed,i have some stuff called super klear kc will that help with the floaties

    My first batch (midwest supplies autamn amber ale) and its been in the primary for 9 days,took the lid off to tranfer to carboy and theres lots of stuff floating on top that looks like yeast?..good beer smell...also my carboy is 6 gallon,5 gallon batch of beer with lots of head room left will it...

    Ive read that a 5 gallon carboy is perfect for 5 gallon secondary...Least amount of headroom the better

    no i dont use my bottling bucket for a primary but i think you could as long as rubber seal would hold up to a little pressure

    Im a new brewer,i bought an amber ale kit from midwset supplies,put it in primary fermentation bucket on the 7th and i wont get my carboy untill 16th,is that to long in the primary..thanks alot.... By the way if you have tried that kit let me know how it turned out :mug:
