Help: Is This "dme" Ok For A Starter

From the information I've now found yes it does seem to be LME. Quote from Graham Wheeler (the Brits version of John Palmer)

Help: Is This "dme" Ok For A Starter

Sorry for the caps, but I think I might of been sold the wrong thing by my HBS (brewers droop). I went in and asked for some light DME for a starter and he gave me this big blue tin that said "EDME DMS Diastatic Malt Extract", hmmm DME sounds right to me I thought. Anyway I just opened it up...

    Tasted my first AG (early)

Boadicia = equivalent to Challenger hops, very similar apparently. And I have way more trouble reading all your lbs, ounces and fahrenheit. How does 32F = freezing it makes no sense I tell yah!!!! And yes it's a clone recipe of this beer Bath Ales : Gem : Our premium amber ale

    Tasted my first AG (early)

Just had a sneaky half pint of my first AG, admitedly two weeks earlier than I should, and OMG how good was this! Considering I've never brewed anything before I think I've done a pretty good job, head retention was great! Admitedly it could probably do with a bit more carbonation. MARIS...

    Taking the Next (baby) Step

Apart from money (for extra equipment) and time constraints associated with going to all grain, I don't understand why people feel the need to go from kits->extract->all grain instead of going straight to all grain. I jumped in head first to all grain never having brewed anything in my life...

Nope it's a standard brass nut for a compression fitting

    Leaky tap on boiler

Electricity is cheaper for us Brits to use rather than gas, hence the what is essentially a 27 litre kettle, I believe this one used to be used to boil clothes, but the tap was rubbish so I've replaced it. I believe it was leaking from the thread end not the pipe end.

    Leaky tap on boiler

So I finally replaced the tap on my Burco with a ball valve, I do however have a slight drip in the highlighted area, the nut is as tight as it will go. I'm fairly useless at DIY type stuff (it took me nearly 45 mins to fit figure out how to fit it) so how do I stop the drip?

I realise Mr Palmer is a god amongst men for you guys brewing in the States, but how come no-one else gets quoted? Not saying he's wrong but there must be other sources

    Wanting to Watch

I had the same question, I have a contact who works for a local brewery close to me who helped me get setup. He says the only stage where you really must avoid aerating the beer at all costs is after the beer has fermented, and transferring it to you next vessel, whether that be secondary, kegs...

    Mistakes to learn from

Well I researched it for a good month before I jumped in, I know you can apply lots of science to it. But ultimately it's breaks down into a relatively simple list of steps to follow :) I was initially worried about having to be anal about sanitising, during my research however I learnt that...

    Mistakes to learn from

I'll add a number 4, I'm now suspecting I'm from a hard water area as the trials I tasted after measuring the FG did taste quite bitter, I'm hoping though that this is down to the beer being very young.

Was the airlock thing a big mistake?

Need to top up with CO2?

It allows me to inject CO2 from these small bulbs into my keg, I do plan on getting an S30 valve thingy at some point in the future, but for now this is my best option.

    Mistakes to learn from

Nope not even kits or extract, it went relatively well but I obviously need to tie up these loose ends.

    Mistakes to learn from

Ok well last week I finished my first full AG brew ever, and I have a list of mistakes I need to learn from for next time, I'm hoping that none of them will of ruined my beer! 1. Need to fix my coolbox mashtun the hosepipe from my grain filter fell out of the tap during the 2nd batch sparge...

Need to top up with CO2?

Ok so I managed 6 bottles and just over half a keg from my first ever AG brew, now the keg has been fully primed with the sugar so over the next few weeks it should produce its own CO2, however, as you can see from the picture below it is just over half full. Should I consider topping it up...
