    Pennsylvania Drinkers Call To Action

Singles are allowed somehow. I'm just not sure what those rules are. There's a place locally that you can buy individual bottles. Of course they cost $4 - $8 each.

    Sparge arm

I wouldn't bother buying one. I have one but that's because it came as part of the kit I got for Christmas. The key is to not let the sparge water burrow a hole in the grain. A plate sitting on top of the grain supposedly works fine or a tube with holes drilled in lying on the grains as well.

    Pennsylvania Drinkers Call To Action

Woo hoo! Turns out some of us are wrong. The bill did originally include only 12 packs, but was amended to include 6 packs as well: http://www.legis.state.pa.us/CFDOCS/Legis/PN/Public/btCheck.cfm?txtType=HTM&sessYr=2007&sessInd=0&billBody=S&billTyp=B&billNbr=0674&pn=1102

You're right it is just 12 packs, but that's a start.

Senate Bill 674 is up for a vote in the state senate. It would allow 6, 12 and 18 packs to be sold at distributors. Be sure to write your state senator to let them know you support the bill. You can find out there email address here: http://www.congress.org/congressorg/home/ Depending...

anybody have experience with Jet power tools?

I would highly recommend Jet. I have a table saw that's a step above yours and it's great. All of the contractors who have come through our house drool over it if that's any display of how good they are. Also, I haven't owned any larger Hitachi tools, but the hand tools and drill bits I've...

    Has anyone made carbonated apfelwein?

I know there are mentions of it in the original thread if you want to wade through the hundreds of pages. I plan on kegging mine but bottle conditioning works just as well apparently.

    Boil overs are awesome!

I had my first boil over with my last batch. Fortunately I brew outside with the turkey fryer so clean up wasn't a big deal. Two questions though: 1) Other than clean up - are there any negative side effects of boil overs 2) If I don't use a hop bag, am I losing much hops if there is a boil...

Brewing on the burner of a Grill?

I saw one of these little buggers at Lowe's a couple of weeks ago. Too bad it's only 21k btus.

    Proper Water/Grain Ratio

No for this one I'll be using my 5-gallon round fly sparge setup.

    Cream Ale hop suggestions

I'm not overly concerned with the style guidelines. I just use them as a starter. The batch I just cracked open a bottle from for the first time last night was originally supposed to be a brown ale but after tasting, I realized it's much more of a brown porter. Any ideas what style this...

    Accidental Brown Ale

After further tasting, the Hallertau needs to be adjusted. The aroma is a little much for this style.

    Proper Water/Grain Ratio

I noticed that in How To Brew, John Palmer states Typically, I see a mash ratio of 1.25 being recommended for the mash. I was considering shooting for a 1.15 qt/lb ratio for mash-in and a target of 1.45 qt/lb for the mash-out. Of course shooting for a 1.45 qt/lb ratio for the mash-in and...

    Mash Water Volumes

I'm not sure of the exact calculations going on behind the scene, but I think the point is that the 1.75qt/lb is not for the mash out water alone. It's the amount of mash-out water to get the mash up to 1.75 from its starting point of 1.25qt/lb.

    My first full boil!

Although multiple factors affect evaporative rate, the two biggest ones are: 1) Did you have the lid on or off? 2) How high was the burner turned up? I have a 55k BTU turkey fryer turned up as high as I can before (I'm sure there's a technical term for this) there's a space between the flame...
